Interestingly enough and going slightly off subject, did anyone else see the NLP piece last Sunday when it touched on the reorganisation of step 5 leagues for 2007/8.

It appears that the powers that be would still very much like to reduce the number of leagues down from 14 to 12 so that they link nicely into the hoped for 6 around the country at step 4 also for 2007/8.

The future of the Essex Senior and Kent Senior leagues was specifically brought up and it implies that the Thames appears to be too much of a geographical obstacle for an amalgamation to be considered and that other amalgamation/reorganisation of these two and other similarly placed small number leagues may be imposed by the FA under the control of officials of existing leagues being affected.

This action, the article suggested, might result in resignations of some officials of the leagues being affected in protest against such a move.

I can't speak about the Kent situation but it occurs to me that there are enough step 5 level clubs in Essex to form a pretty good premier league for our county of at least 20 teams (apparently the FA's preferred number) with another similar quantity for a division one to create an interesting promotion/relegation situation even before the issue of promotion up to step 4 comes into the equation.

Sir, you are bang on the target - the nonsense that exists of clubs in Essex being in two leagues MUST be put to right, on top of that there are quite a number of clubs on the western borders as well - I am ready to talk - just waiting for the call ! The NLP was a bit speculative but it must have got people talking which can do no harm. My other posting under " Risden" gives the up-date so far - very traumatic folks we should be ready to go on 12th August ???

For Gods sake, people have crossed water for thousands of years on all manner of vessels, yet now that we have tunnels, bridges and low and behold 'CARS' ....we can't dare think about crossing from one side of the Thames to the other to play football. If you think about it logically some teams in Kent would be nearer than some teams in the far reaches of Essex. This is the problem when calling leagues by geographical location.

Hear, hear to that LC.

Obviously you are unable to go into any detail but may I ask if there have been any provisional meetings on the subject or if any discussion documents have been issued from either direction on the matter.
