Westfield - Latest information

Recommended Posts

Been in touch with a couple of contacts, one within the F.A.

Westfield are not yet officially back in the Premier Division and they DID NOT win their appeal with the F.A. despite what has been said. To put the record straight their appeal was actually dismissed by the F.A. as there were no grounds for the appeal. However, the Combined Counties League has been asked by the F.A. to look again at the ground sharing arrangement which is what they are currently doing. Initially the F.A. said that a move to groundshare just to keep in a division was against the rules as laid down in the criteria document and accepted by the League before the start of the 2005/06 season, which, because their own ground is not up to scratch, is why Westfield were relegated. The F.A. now seem to have moved the goalposts by saying that a temporary ground-share is OK provided the work is completed on their own ground before the end of this comming season. A more permanent ground share is still not accepteable to retain a position in the league. The Combined Counties Management Committee meets this week before announcing their findings and to clarify the situation. After all this, if Westfield do not retain their place in the Premier, it will be a huge surprise, as the league were willing to accept the groundshare originally – as might Frimley Green who have a similar ground-share arrangement with Farnborough. However, the likely retention of their place is not because they won their appeal. It seem's Westfield's website have 'jumped the gun' slightly by saying they will be Premier Division. It's not official yet which is why nothing has been posted on the Official League Website yet.

Any Frimley Green fans reading this, I suggest you get your club to contact the League Management committee immediately to clarify the situation. You may not need to fork out money and appeal

Do FG definitely have it in place though? I heard that it was an agreement but nothing was signed?

Also if Farnborough go into administration as someone pointed out awhile ago do u see the CCL or FA allowing a team (FG) to groundshare with someone who might not be about (possibly)?

I hear Frimley Green's chairman has 'sort of' stepped down and I don't think there is anyone else to pick the baton up and campaign for the club to be reinstated.

I also heard they appointed a manager at the end of the season who has just told them he doesn't want to manage a team in Division 1.

I can't see them appealing and I wouldn't be surprised if they folded! I certainly hope they don't!

I did hear that Craig was thinking of packing up. I really hope not but if he does then I presume a step back into Div 1 will make sense.

I agree - but there is a big cap between those divisions, it was a big cap last season it's even bigger now!

Managing a premier side at Farnboro with a small budget compared to managing in Div 1 at Frimley's ground with no budget - is a massive difference!
