Even my Man U fanatical friend has agreed that he has no footballing future this country....something I have been saying for ages !!

..and by the way....why did the ref blow the whistle so that Carragher could take his penalty, only to ask him to re take it as that goalkeeper wasn't ready !!! Come on CG, you were a goalkeeper !!

Not the greatest performance, but I did think that we were slightly (!!!!) cheated out of it !!

..await PC brigade & Tea hut moaning b'stards to disagree !!!

Cheers.....or not as the case may be !!

'Fraid I didn't see it Hirsty, I was busy scoring an elegant 18 opening the batting at Luddesdowne.

Mind you, the umpire had it on his pocket radio, so we all knew how badly it was going.

As for the keeper, the ref blew because it was all part of West Germany meeting Portugal in the final - not that I'm a conspiricy theoristor anything.

The entire tournament is corrupt and tainted - just watch the Argies get a 2000 Euro fine for last nights behaviour.

At least you scored 18 ! I had the misfortune to watch the 5th ODI prior to the footie !! How can we get 2 runs off the opening 4 overs of our innings & the Sri Lankans get 55 off the opening 4 overs of theirs ?? Questions will be asked in the House.......I predict a riot !

Cheers,

Agree that Ronaldo's behaviour in insisting on the sending off was a disgrace, just as it has been when other players have done it in other games (though for a player to do it against a club team mate must be a first.) However, while at first I thought Rooney had done nothing, the replays I saw during the game (couldn't bear to watch any post mortems) definitely suggested he'd deliberately stamped into the Portugese player's groin & the ref was right there on top of the incident.

If so, Rooney must shoulder a lot of the blame for our going out. But then, so must the manager who has been proven totally incapable of getting talented players to perform as a team: we were turgid in every game. Sure we showed fighting spirit when up against it with ten men, but not the psychological strength to win a penalty shoot out - yet again. Would the Germans have lost in the same position? Silly question. You can practise penalties as long as you like, but at the end of the day, whether you score or fluff it is all in the mind & 2 players, reckoned to be amongst the best in the world, paid more in a week than any of us are in a year, fluffed it. Do we employ a team psychologist? On yesterday's showing, if we do they should be told to pack up & join the departing Sven.

Want France to win it now, but the Germans could easily win me round, as they have in every match I've seen them play so far. Less talented than England individually, but so positive, probably because they are managed by a man who is liberated in his attitude, rather than cautious & anally retentive.

I agree with you there is more politics in the World Cup than people imagine. Sepp Blatter and FIFA do not like having England around. If they can find a way to oust them from a tournament then they will do so. It is time pressure was applied by the FA on other countries to get him removed. We all know that they wanted Germany there as "Kaiser" Beckenbauer is in charge of the arrangements. At one time I thought it would be that they wanted Brasil and Germany in the final. However, with Zidane probably retiring after the World Cup I can see that France and Germany contesting the final.

As regards Ronaldo, after what he has said today I think he realises he better get away from Old Trafford or receive a pasting from either Rooney, Neville or Ferdinand when they get back to pre-season training. For someone to do what he did shows he is no gentleman. FIFA though have got to get a hold of this issue of players going to the referee wanting him to give a card. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chat.gif" alt="" />

I dont suppose they give a fug who is there. (As it goes I am sure FIFA would love a winner from outside the usual suspects.)

The Germans may get there, as

1) they have played attractive attacking football and

2) they don't [****!!****] themselves when they play someone decent.

If Zidanes puts in another performance like he did last night, there is every chance France will be in the final. Not cos his retiring but cos he is a world class player.

World class players get their reputation for what they do on the field, not by press hype.

Also world class players deliver on the highest stage, so you can cross out many of our hyped up players over recent years. With the exception of Gerrard ( Champions league final - Even then I think Hamann can take a lot of the credit ) what England player has achieved that in recent history.

Do't blame a FIFA conspiracy, blame FA mismanagement.

(15million would have gone a long way in devoloping schools football in this country. unless keeping mistresses in the style they are unaccompanied to, is a benefit to our game.)

We have guys on this forum that bemoan our manager , but like him or not,he is his own man and makes decisions.

Good riddance to the Swede - in the words of me ol' mate Pete - What a waster.

If you don't think that FIFA are corrupt then you are a lot more naive than I thought Gordon.
Had you seen the BBC documentary on alledged corruption at the very heart of FIFA, involving huge sums of money in exchange for lucrative TV rights for major Footballing events, perhaps you wopuld change your mind.

If that doesn't work. here is the report:
In a report for Panorama – The Beautiful Bung – Corruption and the World Cup - veteran reporter Andrew Jennings reveals the serious allegations and evidence that has triggered a major investigation by the Swiss authorities.

Serious allegations of bungs, sleaze and vote-rigging by some of the men running the World Cup will be broadcast by Panorama tonight (Sunday 11 June 2006) on BBC ONE at 10.15pm.

Even as FIFA officials secure the best seats in German stadiums, they know that Switzerland's investigating Magistrate Thomas Hildbrand is closing in on some of them.

In the programme Jennings is pushed by a FIFA vice-president for asking him how much profit he plans to make from selling World Cup tickets this year.

Then he is banned from FIFA headquarters for asking president Sepp Blatter what he knows about kickbacks to senior officials from a company seeking lucrative contracts.

The programme reveals that over a million pounds worth of bribes have secretly been repaid. Not by the officials who received the kickbacks – but, according to a secret court judgement, by FIFA itself.

Magistrate Hildbrand must decide if this broke Swiss law. If it did, some of the most senior FIFA officials could face jail.

During his investigation Jennings travels from the Swiss Alps to the beaches of the Caribbean.

A senior executive from ISL, the former marketing company that paid the bribes, speaks anonymously to Jennings, revealing that 'bungs' were paid systematically – frequently through offshore bank accounts – over a 20-year period.

The payments increased during negotiations for World Cup contracts. The executive estimates that tens of millions of pounds in bribes were paid.

The programme is the culmination of nearly six years' research by Jennings.

His first big breakthrough came in July 2001 when he quizzed liquidator Thomas Bauer of Ernst & Young, appointed to unravel the affairs of the ISL company after it plunged into a spectacular bankruptcy.

Bauer told Jennings: "I've found football related payments from ISL. Some are very large, in excess of one million francs. I've written to the recipients asking them to return the money."

Bauer decided that the bribes were company assets and should be reclaimed for the creditors.

A secret deal was brokered by a lawyer who has acted for FIFA to protect the identity of those who repaid the money.

Magistrate Hildbrand, already probing allegations of embezzlement of FIFA money by the ISL executives, has discovered that the last bribe was paid in January 2001, even as ISL went bust.

Last November the police raided FIFA House and searched the office of Sepp Blatter, President of FIFA, and his General Secretary Urs Linsi.

The authorities confirm their inquiries are continuing.

Jennings also investigates the politics inside FIFA, Sepp Blatter and how vote-rigging helped put him in power .

President Blatter has declined to grant Panorama an interview – and denies all the allegations.

Jennings has written several books about corruption in world sport. Earlier this year he published FOUL!– about FIFA.

Does the investigation prove that Sepp Blatter wanted England out ? If it doesn't, then young Gordon was justified when he said [****!!****].

I am sure that the investigation will find that Daish is responsible for all FIFA's corruption, and that Sepp Blatter should be replaced by Ade P.
