40 years of hurt

Recommended Posts

I've had a vision, we're going to win 2-1 tomorrow, goals from Lampard and Gerrard.

We'll have to be on top form though, particularly Neville and A Cole to stop their dangerous wingers, and Maniche is a quality player through the middle. I'd put both Carrick and Hargreaves in the midfield, along with Becks, Lamps, Gerrard.

Bring it on, as they say.

Rooney was unlucky? You watching the same game as me, Rob? I thought he was lucky not to be arrested.

Lampard must be the most overrated player to ever play for England. World's Second Best Player? Man, they're having a laugh.

Agreed about Hargreaves - Man of the Match, perhaps England's Man of the Tournament.

Rooney - thick twat who deserved everything he got.

My thoughts............

Sven - Goodbye. Thanks for getting us into the various finals and for the 1-5 over Germany. I think you did your best but we really needed someone to get us pass the quarters (and not select Arsenal reserve players!). Not sorry to see the back of your personal life. Enjoy the money.

Robinson - Fine shot stopper (apart from penalties)but I wish he would occasionally catch a cross. There were times when I was thinking I'd rather have James in goal. But I'm over that now.

The defence - Apart from the second Sweden goal they were okay and brilliant against Portugal

Midfield - Lampard and Gerrard together does not work. Beckham's best day are far behind him and Joe Cole's inconsistant. Problems on the creative side I would say, Hargreaves should have been a first team choice years ago

Forwards - Rooney needs more anger management and to my mind was not match fit even at the end. Having said that if Crouch had played from the beginning to support him, things might have ended better than they did. Owen also did not look match fit and I am doubtful if his form would have returned even if had not got injured.

Penalties - As soon as I saw that Lampard was going to take the first one I went off to make a cup of tea. I knew then it wasn't going to our day.

Standard of football - England could quite easily of fluked it to the final (and won it!). Draw your own conclusions

Still it could be worse - I am just about old enough to remember 1966

English Football - RIP <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/frown.gif" alt="" />

Agreed aboout Hargreaves, just shows what being given a run in the side can do, shuts up all them tabloid reading idiots who were booing him when they'd never seen him play for more than 5 mins, these were the same booing Crouch a few months ago, though Crouch did very well when he came on.

In this game you pick the best player for that position, we have two great attcking midfielders in Lampard and Gerrard and both can't be played, play Gerrard and it's up to Lampard to play well enough to displace him, if we had 4 world class strikers all on a par with Rooney we wouldn't play all 4 would we?

You can't take the anger out of Rooneys game as it makes him the player he is, it's just a shame that it will cost us every so often, although if it was 11 v 11 I'm still convinced it would have finished 0-0.

Ronaldo is going to be getting a lot of stick next season or maybe this is his way of engineering a departure from Man U

We all know McClaren was probably the wrong choice, let's see how he does though and roll on Euro 08! I we don't win that then I forsee a few years in the doldrums as we haven't really got the world class players coming through at the moment like the current batch!
