How many fans will Jeff take with him to Chelmsford?

Recommended Posts

Conference football is a pipe dream. I think depending on how well we do over the next two seasons will determine where we see the majority of our mid-term future. We could easily end up like one of the teams we always used to joke about being a nothing team, i.e. Boreham Wood, Maidenhead etc. who would always settle for mid-table obscurity season after season without getting relegated, yet not exactly challenging for much either except long runs in the FA competitions.

As for Chelmsford City... f*ck 'em. They don't care about us, why should we acknowledge them? I've wished the majority of the players that have left every success in their future careers and as individuals I choose to hope they do well wherever they're playing. But that doesn't make me suddenly want to take an interest in their club, especially if they're not in our league. If we do happen to play any of these clubs, then I'm sure it's a mutual feeling that during the match, the gloves are off! Their CIFC careers are over and as with all things we move on. Chairmen, Players, Managers all come and go, but the hardcore fan is on a lifetime agreement no matter what the future holds.

I also can't see why a Canvey fan would suddenly switch allegiance to follow Chelmsford anyway, unless they lived around that area and followed success, which undoubtedly Chelmsford will be over the coming seasons, but do I care? No!

Ribbit

you said that Chelmsford never were a big non league team. I think you have that wrong City were a top non league team many years ago along with teams like Wimbledon.(record attendance 16000+)

however this means nothing in 2006 but you have to agree that we have the potential to be a big non league Club due to size of population etc.but we have to be successful on the pitch to attract people through the gates. We dont want boom and bust we have been there before and like any supporters we have to trust our board.

Anyway good luck for the future and keep faith with your Club, we have had a rough ride for the last 10years or so but refused to let our Club die.

I know you wasn't. What I'm saying is, a lot of people had us down as a big club, just as you say some Chelmsford fans think their club is a big one. Neither were and neither are.

Chelmsford were actually quite big going back a few years Ribbit.

Well I dont live on the Island anymore and it is less than 30 mins drive to Chelmsfords ground from Canvey, Southend or Basildon but I certainly have no intentions of going over there. I support Canvey and will continue to do so whatever league we play in. Chelmsford may have our Management and best players now but that club has absolutely nothing to do with us. I agree with Eggy that no more than a small group of Kingys yes-men will defect up the A12 and good luck to 'em, I hope they enjoy the wonderful experience of seeing a football match from the other side of a running track and sand pits !!

or behind the goals a few feet away from the pitch! I believe a large percentage of regular 'diehard' fans stand behind the goals. our set up isnt ideal but it is better than groundsharing 10 miles from your home town and athletics track aside we do have excellent facilities.

I think i've said before that unless its Canvey or England i'm watching, then i dont really care.

Now a lot of people have a different opinion and go to watch other teams sometimes when there is nothing to do. That's fair enough and they have the right to do that because they have a geniune love for football. It just doesn't appeal to me.

But why on God's earth would you want to go and put money in Jeff's pocket again when you dont have to anymore and after he has left us for them? It goes back to my comment about having a genuine love for football. Unless we are playing them, then as a Canvey fan i dont think you should be there because of principle and recent history.

My point is just because Chenners, Wardy etc are there, does this mean you will go to see John Keeling at Gravesend or John Kennedy at Histon. Yes, they are further away but the point still remains. The only club you should be watching is Canvey and not Chelmsford because of recent history and in my own personal opinion, bad blood.

Doesn`t what has happened recently to us recently show you that the money through the gate does not put money in anyones pocket! I`ve heard so many people on Canvey use that as a reason why they didn`t come an watch Canvey in the past, let`s hope now Jeff King has gone they come down and support us i wonder

I will always support Canvey but if we have no game and i`ve got time spare and want to see a match i will watch any team i want thanks Chalky and still be able to keep my pricipals intact.
