2006/7 squad.

Recommended Posts

By my reckoning we have now 11 signed for next season, and Holloway until August.

Mott GK

Hawkins FB

MaCarthy CH

Smith CH

Smith CH

Slatter MID

Quinn MID

Moore FWD

Roberts MID

MacDonald FWD

Ekoku FWD

With Moore, Roberts and Ekoku barely our of nappies in terms of conference expperience, we are going to rely heavily upon MacDonald staying fit for the entire season.

LD's main priority surely is to bolster the midfield. We dare not start ther season with less than 6 midfielders, 4 of whom should be experienced and of proven quality.

Which leaves us requiring at least an experienced right back, 2 additional young defenders as cover, 2/3 seasoned midfielders, 1 young midfielder and another keeper should Craig decide to leave.

Even if that all happens, this will give us perhaps the smallest squad in the Conference at 18/19.

Is that enough, and am I on the right lines for our requirements?

Fantastic, a month ago the tea hut brigade were complaining that we couldn't get a 5-a-side team out in May, we now seem to have a full team but no cover in June.

By the time the season starts in just two short months I fully expect to see posts on here complaining that our squad is too large....marvellous.

Thank god Slarti. The wife found me polishing my boots! Do they still make Dubbin, and what's the best comic to put in the toecaps?

its good that we now have a starting 11 but now lets hope we dont just get any old substitutes to fill the gaps but some that will come on and make a difference

If that is our starting XI, then heaven help us. 5 of those players have only 17 Conference starts between them.
I would hope that only 5 or 6 would actually be considered as part of the "best" starting XI, with the remainder vying for places on the bench.
No matter how much promise a PASE player has, it is a huge leap to Conference football, where they will meet wily old league veterens and strong, experienced Conf campaigners.
Let LD ease the youmg lads in gently. Playing all of them at once could prove to be a disaster for the club, and could wreck a players confidence for the season.

Swap Mott for Holloway and Roberts is the only one of that XI with no Conference experience. Sure, we do need the players you've identified, but as the spine of a side, it's not as bad as we feared. Daish signed five players after July last season. He'll need more than that, but there's still a way to go yet.
