Today and the rest of the season

We need to kill teams off when we're on top. We were well on top at 1-1 yesterday. I find it amazing that we had 6 strikers at the club a few weeks ago and now we have 2 fit ones, one being a 18yr old who needs to be broken in slowly. The amount of crosses we put in the box we need a striker with the heading ability of Steve Clark, I mean how many goals have we actually scored with headers this season?

Not in midfield, Cynic and that's where it counts. Oakes is class and Challinor works tirelessly but the rest of the midfield is dead. Our strikers worked their nuts off yesterday, especially Crawshaw but it must be soul destroying for both of them with the inadequate service they are receiving. Virtually every ball coming out of defence, with the exception of Gledhill, is lumped aimlessly into the air and as a consequence, immediately becomes a 50/50 ball, at best.

For the first 8 matches of this season, up to the Kingstonian game, we played it on the ground and kept it simple, playing to our considerable strengths. Okay, I accept we rode our luck a little in some of the games but on the whole, it worked. We were winning and winning well. And then we go and change it all. I was very encouraged to see us revert back to the original formula at the Sutton game. It was good to watch. Unfortunately, it didn't last.

Someone, please, what is going on?

Have to agree with True Saint, Challinor always seems to be on his own in centre midfield . Castle does his best but is starting to show his age a bit. Evans is worth a place as he always gives 100% and helps out with the defence.

Maybe we should be playing 3-5-2 (ducks head below parapet) to give us a bit of stability in the middle. I'd bring Moran back in place of Brown (no point in lumping it over the heads of five midfielders) push Becks up and put Kean back on the right where he's at his best.

Team:

Wilmot; Gledhill, Moran, Campbell; Kean, Oakes, Evans, Challinor, Hollenbach; Crawshaw, Martin.

[fires shot at RTS for suggesting 3 at the back]

Steve Castle didn't break out of a jog at best in the last 15 minutes on Saturday. There's no heart, no want in the side. The ability is clearly there, but the boys, sorry, too many boys aren't wearing their hearts on their sleeves etc.

Wilmot, Gledhill, Naylor, Moran, Campbell, Challinor, Oakes, Castle (wake up first), Mackail-Smith, Crawshaw, Kean / Hollenbach

Why don't we try and play the team that pefrormed so well in the opening games (with the addition of Gledhill) and give them a say 5 game run up to new year and tell them to try and recreate them opening games:

Wilmot

Gledhill

Naylor

Cambell

Townley

Challinor

Oakes

Castle

Martin

Crawshaw

Hollenbeach

With the expection of Townley (can we recall him?) and the slightly unfit Martin that team can be played, can't it?

I don't subscribe to any of this "it's the taking part that counts" [****!!****]. The whole idea of a sport is to [/b]win[/b].

This is why the Aussies are so successful at their sports. They don't tolerate losers. They wouldn't make a hero of Tim Henman, for example, for losing four Wimbledon semi-finals.

Our problem in this country is we pat our losing sportspersons on the back and say, "ah never mind, better luck next time. You're a winner in our eyes anyway!"

that is so true,

the trouble is they gave us a modicum of hope that we might just get out of the bloody M25 league...so therefore your attitude changes with regards to watching football at this level, suddenly not so happy with finishing 6th but actually believe this could be the year

In future can we just revert back to type and concentrate on the HCC or a few excellent displays against the prevalent league leader...
