Another new signing

Recommended Posts

Either way it is two more than we had yesterday and another two with Conference experience...it looks like the talk of a team full of inexperienced youngsters was a bit premature. I am sure we will have some youngsters in the squad, as we should, but i think we will have enough experience to see us through.

Give it a rest.
It's another 2 players signed for next season that weren't signed yesterday!

I, for one, am actually getting quite excited about next season.
This really will be Liam's squad next season and it might actually be for the better.

I have to say I am somewhat happier now than I was this time last week.

Quinn and Hawkins are both very experienced Conference campaigners, who should do well.

I am still wary of the young lads signed on, none are proven at this level, but at the moment I will rely an what I have consistently said before in that LD does actually have an eye for spotting good up and coming young players.

How he wants them to play on the pitch is another matter..............

Now this is Mr Rose Tinted Spectacles talking, remember. I thought Danny looked quite useful the little bit I saw of him in the game against Crawley at our place. However, if WVN hadn't decided to sail off voluntarily to Elba he might be harranguing us with his not very impressive goal per game stats, ignoring the fact he mostly came on as sub:

Danny's stats

Good sign we held on to Hawkins. Tends to suggest the money situation is not as dire as some of us feared. Still a lot of positions to fill in all 3 areas, but good to see everyone more upbeat.

Alsoo LD said on RK tonite that Hawkins had signed a full time contract.
He is a player I did rate, looked like he enjoyed passing the ball from defence, too.

He was one of our better performers in the last game of the season, and generally improved after a shaky start, struggling particularly at Altrincham (although hopefully this can be put down to the adverse weather conditions).

A perfect example of the doom and gloom that this forum often (very often) possesses.

Er, 3 things:

1. JC was referring to Peter Hawkins, who as a defender can hardly be criticised for not scoring goals.

2. Doubtless you are referring to Danny Ekoku & whilst his 1 goal from 25 appearances is hardly in the Van Nistleroy class, 17 of these were as substitute.

3. Oh dear. "His" = possessive pronoun, belonging to him; "he's" = contracting together of "he is" or "he has" (as in he has scored.) Sort of literacy error a Level 4 at KS3 (low average eleven year old) shouldn't be making.

Sorry. I do get rather prissy when people make basic errors in posts that are critical of other people.

God, you're predictable RR.

I note you didn't contribute to the Charlton Reserves discussion. Too positive for you, was it?

NEW SIGNING
Gravesend & Northfleet have announced the signing of Riverview Red. The tiresome old moaner has been a target of manager Daish's for months. "He's got it all," said Daish. "Knowledge, ability, knows the game inside out, will give bags of encouragement to the younger players, a real club man... sometimes you won't notice him for ages, then BANG!, he'll pop up with a quality moan that his peers just can't hold a candle too."

Red becomes Daish's fourth signing of the summer and usually plays in front of the tea bar, sucking his teeth and looking like he's just eaten a lemon. Liable to go missing for periods of the game, usually the most positive periods, fans have reacted with mixed emotions. "One for the future is he?!" complained one young supporter. "More like an old fossil! What is Daish thinking?!"

However, Supporters Club Chairman White Van Nistelroy welcomed the signing. "At last, the kind of player I've only ever dreamed of. He'll be a legend by the tea bar. I can see it now, the sublime flicks of sarcasm, the speed of his wit and the razor-sharp aim of his criticism. He'll put a smile back on the face of every ill-informed miserable old FLeet fan..."
