Exceptional today.Kept Llundberg subdued all game. Not much going forward, but that was expected I suppose. Solid at the back with a never-say-die attitude.Impressed me today. The first that has so far.(Hislop brilliant too).

Who has impressed you so far, especially from the lesser known players?

He played well GW.Very comfortable on the ball.Tall lad too.Just one slight criticism. He dosent get involved enough. His passing is brilliant.Lollops along for most of the game but comes alive when the ball gets to him.Looks a bit lazy at times but on the whole looks classy.Whenever he had the ball you could see an inch perfect pass coming.Yes one to note GW,I agree.

I know this thread is about lesser known players but today those we know, those of Hislop & Drogba were outstanding too.

Must admit I thought he was a bit lazy too but his positioning is first class and when on the ball he does all the right things. Could be a bargain. I bet Pearce will have taken note. Maybe he was conserving energy but he was up against a very good side and might have been asked to play the holding role. Will have to keep this thread going tomorrow. W/C watcher for this month <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

Another noticed today. Buzzing in midfield, stamina in abundance with a good eye for a pass. Scored Mexico's third from a cracking move started & finished by himself.

Another to impress me was the German full back:

16 LAHM Philipp

Date of birth: 11 November 1983

Height: 170 cm

Weight: 62 kg

Position: Defender

Current Club: Bayern Munich (GER)

Int'l Goals: 2 (as of 4-Jul-2006)

Int'l Caps: 24 (as of 4-Jul-2006)

First Int'l Cap: Croatia v. Germany (18-Feb-2004)

Budweiser Man of the Match

14 Jun Germany 1:0 (0:0) Poland

Club History

2001-2003 Bayern Munich (GER)

2003-2005 VfB Stuttgart (GER) - Loan

Since 2005 Bayern Munich (GER)

Profile

Full back Lahm loves to cut inside onto his favoured right foot as he surges down the left wing. He played his early football with Bayern Munich before heading to VfB Stuttgart on loan in the 2002/03 season.

He matured rapidly in two seasons at Stuttgart, then made his international debut against Croatia and played every minute of UEFA Euro 2004 for Germany.

A torn cruciate ligament briefly halted his progress, but he has come back strong and, in 2005, he returned to Bayern Munich.

Lahm has had a very good World cup, i think sometime in the future for the german national team he will switch to rightback, as they have a young leftback by the name of Marcell Jansen who is a lad to keep a eye out for.

Also watch out for Aaron Hunt in the near future his currently playing with SV Werder Bremen, his a very usefull forward his half german, half english and recently decided to play for German U-21 due to no one from England aproaching him.
