Glen Harris

Tonight at Beveree Alan Devonshire captured his second target of the summer as 24 year old midfielder Glen Harris from Slough Town. Harris who can be described as a 'box to box' midfielder, scored 7 goals for the Rebels last year, and has also appeared for Hayes FC in the Nationwide Conference.

He also represents the England FUTSAL side (which contains AFC Wimbledon's Robet Ursell) and at the start of the 2005/06 season went to the World Student Games.

He of course also links up with fellow ex-Slough team mate Ian Hodges at Beveree.

SR - if they were on contract, you'd be complaining about us paying them when they were injured!! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

In seriousness, clubs at this level for the main part cannot afford to put players on contract and even then it would only be the younger players who there would be a chance you could potentially sell on i.e. McCleary. In addition, it would have to be both ways, both the player and the club would have to want to be part of the contract and it's not always that straightforward.

Sorry, but I fail to see the lure of Hampton above Slough - yes I am biased (and no offence intended to any Hampton fans), but were in the same league and I would not say they were certain play-off contenders, or a fantastic side.

It's all long-ball stuff and fighting for the second ball - same as when Dev was at Maidenhead which is not good to watch IMO.

If it's AFC or Chelmsford in front of 1,000+, then fair enough, but Hampton??? We outnumbered them 2 to 1 (probably more) in the Bryco Cup final and you are lucky if they take more than 30 fans away to league games!

Really disappointed a local Slough boy in Glen sees them as a better option.

Saying that I don't think Glen will be as bigger blow as losing Hodgey though as him and Leigh Mason are pretty much like-for-like if you ask me, and have always thought that.

Going back to Hodgey though Staines Rebel the reason he was not on contract is because he was not prepared to sign one with us - it was offered several times I believe, but he turned it down. Nothing more we could do.

Fan[****&#33;&#33;****]ingtastic. What a magical way to start the day.

Are there enough Monopoly boards in the world to express my disgust when we play Hampton?

Obviously very disappointed, more because I think Chopper has sold himself short than the fact he chose to leave the club. Players come and go, and be Glen and Hodgey spent three full seasons at the club which at this level is pretty good going, particularly for young players like themselves.

It just leaves you wondering who next I suppose.

Just been looking at the 16 who lined up against Walsall in November 04. With Wilko and Daly expected to call it a day, it leaves only 2 of the 16 still on our books (Carbon and Metcalfe).

Quote:
Allaway; Daly, Saulsbury, Murphy; Carbon, Metcalfe, Harris, Wilkinson, Haddow; Hodges, Spencer (Seedel 62). Subs: Moller, Miller, Parkin Steer.

Just a shame to lose two players who have been so prominent in recent times within a few days and to the same club. Where we go from here I don't know but the season ahead is certainly going to be an interesting if difficult proposition.

I wonder if either player sees Hampton as a "better option" I think they just see "better money". If thats what makes them happy so be it.
