Paul McCarthy signs

Recommended Posts

The club is pleased to announce that defender Paul McCarthy has today agreed a new one year contract. Manager Liam Daish said: “We are extremely pleased that Paul has agreed a new deal, he brings with him a wealth of experience and he will undoubtedly be a key character around the place next season. There will be a few youngsters in our squad and we will need one or two players like Paul to help them through."

Daish went on to say: “I am currently speaking to several players and I hope to have some more good news within the next week or two.”

In terms of experience, yes, this is a decent move by the club, but will he play?, I don't think so, at this stage surely the two Smiths will be our starting centre back pairing. As for being captain, hasn't this subject been to the fore on previous occasions.

Not another club press release that leaves out a vital detail. As with the one about Mott and Roberts, the statement declines to mention whether it's a part-time or full-time deal. In Mott and Roberts' case you would assume the latter, but it's a bit harder to say with McCarthy, given that he was part-time last season.

Is clarification possible on this, Dave?

All players are full-time.

After all that has gone before I can't believe that anyone still needs to ask.

So the transition from part-time to full-time is now 100% complete, and all within one year. Somewhat quicker than the gradual transition I was expecting, and indeed hoping for.

If the Club does indeed now have an official 'full-timers only' policy, this seems unnecessarily restrictive.
