As someone who has played and watched football every weekend since I was a toddler.

Is the football we see now the most skillful we have ever seen ?

I say yes, and it will only get better.

Through my association now with the kids game, its obvious to me that our kids are getting much better training and chances to develop skills than ever before.

The clubs academies are teaching the kids that the football is a friend and needs to be caressed and loved , rather than just lumped forward ( As in my days ) and a tournament I was invited to today ( Joga Bonita) emphasises this.

I personally blame the foreigners for all this.

What do the intellects on here think ?

Up the Fleet .

Not sure that you can compare. As when I played the boots were heavy, came up your leg and protected your ankles.

The ball was also not water proof, and on wet days could weigh anything up to and over 6ib.

The lace could have your eye out, and the chances are the ball was not even completely round.

The studs on your boots were made of leather to. Held on to the sole of your boots with nails. Which you could feel pushing through the soles of boots and into your feet.

The toe cap was so hard, It would still be ok under health and safety as a toe potector now I reckon.

So then for a young kid to hump a ball up field ???? they were lucky if they managed to get it to move a few feet, let alone hump it up field, in the same manner as they can today.

You had no option but to pass it ,or get barged off the ball.

As then we were allowed to touch each other, even the goal keeper.

Shin pads if you could afford them consisted of a material pad with strips on bamboo runing down them. Stitched up

Sounds like a different game let alone compare them lol <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/icon14.gif" alt="" />
