The Third Way

Recommended Posts

I have to disagree with Cap'n Bob's quotes in the NLP today. The Thames used to be a great barrier in the past, but not any more.

Okay midweek trips for Burnham/Southend Manor to Deal/Hythe and vice versa are not ideal, but these could be avoided more or less.

Change is needed and needed fast. We had a 40% upturn in our support at Romford last season - despite our worse ever on-field season - but that was mainly because of Zody's efforts with the local Youth sides.

But the general consensus is that most fans are getting hacked off going to the same grounds each year and support will dwindle unless something changes.

This needs to be sooner than later...it may be painful to some, but a 'dog in the manger' attitude is not the way forward.

That is fair comment and nothing better than healthy debate - if democracy prevails and your ideas match those of the whole league then so be it but I would hope that someone will come up with a better name than one already suggested of " Thames Estuary League " ! ... let the views continue ....

Well it is good to know that democracy is still alive and kicking in some parts of non-league football.

Hey Cap'n, I did suggest on earlier threads, which you have probably perused, of the setting up of a Greater London League, with N,S,E and W divisions. These could be run by the committees of the current step five leagues, etc etc..Just a suggestion but a lot of people will be put off by the lack of fresh meat in the league...

I have enough of a problem living in The London Borough of Havering having been born an Essexman Coup and wonder how teams on the extremities of the counties surrounding London would feel like competing in a football league call Greater London League East, West, North or South.

Sorry but I think your idea lacks merit and a sense poetry too. Let alone history.

If it is to be a joint Essex/Kent league how about calling it 'The Elizabethan League' to reflect both the era of its creation and its geographical umbilical cord.

it is essex senior league and will have to remain like it is now.get the tiptree, stanway rovers, halstead, saffron waldon, clacton etc and will be fine. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smirk.gif" alt="" />

I hope that you are right Coachie. Nothing would make me happier than to see the continuance of a purely Essex based league.

Even after the Boro have moved onwards and upwards!

And I have hinted as such in earlier posts.
