Where do you see Margate?

To get the ball rolling

Champions. I know its optimistic but I think all the players that have arrived are very hard-working and talented. We must have half a team full of players who have captained Conference sides.

Conference National. Promotion from Conf South. It is possible to do exactly what we did between 1999 and 2001. Finish top 5 in the first season and maybe go up but in the second season we could make the step up again no question. Transition into full time football and a couple of high midtable finishes.

League 2. With the promising youth players now into the first team we make our way into the Football League.

To anybody who thinks this is a bit mad then take a look at what happened to Boston. They dropped out of the Conference in the mid 90s, were in the relegation zone of the Southern Prem, their manager was sacked and they brought in the new man (Steve Evans) who after a remarkable turnaround of results steered them safe. The next season he took them to the Southern league title (the year before us), then the Conference title two years later and now they are an established League 2 side.

[color:"blue"]Not quite as optimistic as GW, as seasons go on, Non League football is getting more & more competitive. Look how long it's taken Halifax & Hereford to re-establish themselves into the League.

Next season Play-offs, think we'll go up, but to get top spot you have to be remarkably consistant & pretty lucky too.

Five years time Conference South, this is going to be our stumbling block. Since our relegation from the Conference this Division has been added, it's so, so competitive & will take a lot of work to escape. We'll be helped by having a voracious support of 1000+ regulars.

Ten years time A fixture in the top half of the Conference (like Hereford have been for the past six or seven years). Our support will average 2000+ and Hartsdown will be a formidable fortress for visitors.

I know what you mean Peter when you say that its getting more and more competitive but I think our current set-up is moving with the times and we are very soon going to be in a positon to outmanoevre most sides with an ambitious hungry manager, an excellent stadium, and a great youth set up.

Whilst we are improving, it won't be too easy to get out of Ryman to start with.

Imo ,Ryman is as good a league as conf. south.

Its just the grounds and pitches that are naff.

We must not get carried away for nextseason.

It does worry me a bit, that whilst we have made some excellent signings, they are for one year only, not the youngest kids on the block ,and if we don't get promotion next season, will the team break up and we have to rebuild yet again and be destined to be in Ryman for about 3 more seasons.

Looks like its make or break next season and it will be very very difficult.

I have not set my expectations too high; but if nothing else, it will be nice not to flirt with relegation and maybe enjoy a substantial FA Cup run

Maybe your being optimistic. I don't think so. As you say at the present time we have a team full of hard working guys, plus as yet we do not know who else Trottie is lining up. On paper anyway, plus perhaps a striker i think we will have a squad good enough to take us to at least the play offs in the conference south. By the End of that season hopefully we will have an income stream coming through from the stadium development, plus players coming through from our youth set up.

A by product of success/new stadium/ambition is a larger selection of players wanting to play for you. If the club can prove the worth of its youth section they can select players from a wider area IE, Deal, Dover, Canterbury, Faversham, Whitstable, Herne bay.

Hopefully in 5 years we will be play off candidates in the Conference National, Looking forward to playing in the football league. In 10 years i cannot see why we cannot challenge Gillingham as Kents Premier soccer team.

As a club the Gaaaate has ambition. I believe this board as the ambition. Know we need success. Success will breed more success, this success will drive us upwards and onwards to where no Margaaaaaaate man has gone before(sorry Captain Kirk).

With the calibre of our new signings we ought to make the play-offs next season at least.

As for the longer-term, it all depends on the stadium development. While I'm now pretty sure the thing will finally get built, there are many clubs who have found having a shiny new ground isn't the passport to glory on the pitch. Take a look at Oxford United, Telford, Derby, Southampton etc, etc - all in lower divisions now than when their grounds were built.

Next season we will defintely be challenging for promotion. Still too early too say if enough changes have been made to take us up. Within 5 years we should be back in the conference and within 10 i think we will see league football at Hartsdown.
