Well, we've all been here before haven't we? The close season with all its thrills, spills and hayfever pills! Thank FIFA for the World Cup as it might prevent some of you moaning about the lack of action on the Northfleet front. In support of what

Are you looking for a prize for being the 1,000th contributor to this forum to make a 'humorous' reference to our current lack of players, a common occurrence for many non-league sides at the end of May?

...here, for all the solcredulists amongst you and your sensationalist responses about how the club is heading down the Swannee, is my idiots' guide (note the use of the plural and apostrophe!) to our previous Conference close season dealings:

Personally speaking, this close season was by far the bitterest pill to swallow - firm favourites: Craig, Che, Aaron, Jacko, Nick Burton, both Jamie AND Lee Turner, Benno and Liam left the club...

Now, I'm not Daish's biggest fan, but given that last year he brought in (and kept) Craig Holloway, James Smith, Danny Slatter and Charlie Macdonald, let's see what he can get hold of this summer and then we can moan at him next season

Thanks to confguide for their inexplicable ability to not use capitalisation and hazard guesses as to the date of these dealings

Ah, now you've spoiled it. Showing everyone evidence that we've kinda been in this situation before is hardly fair. What will all those people who think Daish is responsible for everything from releasing 10 players to global warming to the situation in Iraq do now?

Who knows what they'll do? Probably come onto this and moan at me for being responsible for James Blunt's recording career I s'pose!

It was interesting (and wholly diverting from my year 10 coursework marking!) to compile a list of transfers like that - even more so when you look at who Daish managed to recruit AND retain for another season... compared with Andy Ford's merciless culling of the squad that kept us afloat following one season in the conference!
