News Update

The legal 106 Agreement required as a condition of our original planning consent has now been updated, taking account of the current amendments and has been approved by TDC Planners and their Sports Development Officer.

The main content of the 106 Agreement was a requirement for the Club to cement into place its Community Use Programme for the proposed new facilities. Margate Football Club has selected the Ursuline Football Academy to manage the community use element of these facilities. The Ursuline Football Academy has appointed Generation Sports Ltd as their management company. Generation Sports Ltd is also the chosen management company for the Thanet Schools Programme, which is designed to introduce Football to all the children of Thanet.

As part of their development and coaching programme, Generation Sports Ltd employs football coaches. As part of the new partnership with Margate Football Club, Generation Sports have committed to supply Managers/Coaches to both our Under 18 team and newly formed Reserve side, for whom the Club has applied for membership to the Kent League.

The Club is delighted to welcome back Mark Weatherly, who has been appointed as Reserve Team Manager with immediate effect and Tom Hickman who will take control of the Under 18’s. Tom is the Sport Directors of Generation Sports and also a first team member of Dover Athletic FC.

The vision of our Club remains focused on providing a youth development programme which will run through our Youth Section from the 7’s to the 18’s and Reserve team. This must be delivered in a programme of coaching that progresses our youth members into our Reserves and prepares them to take their place in the 1st Team and it will be a programme agreed with Manager Robin Trott, to ensure that the style of play and formation used will be the same as his 1st Team.

The partnership will also provide the opportunity of crash coaching for the youth section sides that have difficulty in reaching the standards of the league in which they play.

Margate Football Club is now the selected partner of the Ursuline Academy and the Club will receive all promising players into its youth section.

While this is all fine and dandy... who or what is the Ursuline Academy, never heard of it, and we have boys at Ursuline! Will the players be from Generation Sports? Can anybody enlighten us, as to whose decision it will be to take players on, appears from last paragraph, it won't be the managers decision..anyway let us know please

Well, it sounds like another milestone in the planning process has been reached, and approved, and that can only be great news.

It also looks as if the youth programme, and community programme, are being approached in the same professional way as all other developments.

Big Welcome to Mark and Tom.

[color:"blue"]I may be wrong about this, but doesn't a football Academy have to have a educational aspect to it? I believe that when we had an Academy side during our Conference days they had an educational tie-up with Thanet College.

From articles i have read in the local press over the last few years, i believe Ursuline is being or as been made a centre of excellence for sport(as Dickens as for music/St Georges for business, hence being or been given the status as a sports academy. Generation sports are the guys who run the soccer coaching over in westgate. Hopefully this link up will give the Gaaaate a stream of bright young players who will come through the set up into the 1st team.

In response to queries raised by Hunty and Geebee, the Ursuline Academy provides A-level education which runs along side the sporting activities for their students. In order to join the Academy, students must be either 17 or 18 years of age.

It is hoped that the Academy will produce both existing Club members and new members for our under 18’s and Reserve side. The selection of these players will be made by the Clubs Management Team of Trott, Weatherly and Hickman.

Quite separate to this is the Thanet Schools Programme, this programme exercised by Generation Sports, is designed to introduce football to all children in Thanet. Some of those children will be put forward to our youth section for membership. The Management Teams of the youth section will make decisions regarding membership and it is hoped that our youth section can accommodate all children wishing to be a member.

Just fantastic news. Not only does this mean we are covering a much wider area when handpicking the talent in Thanet, it also means that we will have a much bigger youth set-up and therefore this will impact upon our first team crowds especially if we are involved in a title challenge. Exciting times ahead.

Great News then, this club is really moving forward. Sorry but on first read, and due to my lack of knowledge it appeared they would be helping, so to speak all youth teams with players. If they can, all the better.
