Work on the Northfleet End

Recommended Posts

The official club website states that the provisional date for the commencement of work at the Northfleet End of the ground should have started around a week ago.

Having driven past the ground on a number of ocassions over the bank holiday weekend it would appear that the work has yet to start?

Bearing in mind the official website also says that work should be completed at the end of June, has there been a delay and if there has will the work be completed in time for the first home friendlies or even the start of the season?

What a miserable bunch of tossers you lot are. All you ever do is run your club down. It's the same old faces time and time again on here moaning about the team, the board, the manager, the stadium, the players. I am a neutral on this subject being a follower of a more upwardly mobile team in NW Kent who have been through some seriously bad times in the past. We have never, NEVER got on the backs of the players, team or management with the embarassing sniping and bickering to the extent that plays out daily on this forum.

I remember going to watch the Fleet play Halesowen at an even more ramshackle Stonebridge Road, with the pitch like a muddy meadow, loosing 7-0 in front of appoc 400. Those were bad times. You have to get perspective. It's obvious to me that the club has a full time plan (not that I necessarily agree with it) and these things take time. Do you honestly think the players released were able to take you forward? Bearing in mind, these were the same players who gave you a poor end of season? Sure you can blame the manager, that's easy. Blame the players that the managers brought in, that's even easier.

It is purely and simply down to money. If you want to progress to the Football League, you have to go full time. Ineveitably, "favourite players" will leave. That is progress. Progress is not easy, progress can be painful. Sure if you want to stay mid to lower table in the Conference keep the "favourite players" and part timers. Eventually they will get too old, then what?

To me the level of football you are playing is not non-league football. It is to all intents and purposes now the 5th division. So naturally, G&N will struggle. Moaning and mithering about it achieves nothing but discord. Get behind your team and your manager.

Yours rantingly

It says nothing of the sort!

The works on the Northfleet end of the ground are provisionally expected to start in a fortnight’s time, with the initial enabling work being started. Once this is completed, the stand will be erected, and this will start no later than the end of June.

I too remember that drubbing. Mr McClusckey decided to vent all his frustration on poor Mal Watkins, making him stay out on the pitch afterwards for a humiliating private lesson, as if a struggling striker was solely to blame for a 7-0 thrashing.

Well said, Mr(?) LT. Whinge, whinge whinge. Whine, whine, whine. Moan, moan, moan. Dig, dig dig. How the present Board can be called arrogant, uninformative & contemptuous of supporters by people who were obviously around in the days pre Brian beats me. And no, I am not up LD's bum, but all this relentless negativity could send me - & I suspect quite a few others - there pretty soon. It's has to be a better place to be than looking at this forum sometimes.

PS Never did I think I would have a positive thing to say about a man who names himself after a concoction that is to real ale farties like myself as wild garlic is to Count Vlad.

Next season, and whether we really have a budget suited to making a proper go of being a full-time club, will give a greater indication as to whether this is true.

But yes, the overly negative atmosphere and relentless monotony on the forum is unpleasant - it's partially 'close-season syndrome', I suppose.

My apologies, I misread what is on the official site.

However, you have not answered the question.....has the work started yet and if not will it be finished in time for the pre-season games and/or the start of next season?

Sorry I blame the club, due to it's wall of silence. So people think the worse as the club has made no positive statements.

my comments and my gripe at the present events taking place at the fleet are duly justified in my opinion, we have been given no information what so ever, about plans/for the coming months, /pre season/no statments have been made by the club. any other teams fans can go on to a web site and find regular daily up dates of goings on at the club. Our web site is only up dated when information is available, there for nothing is not on there.!(i stand corrected and apologise if i am incorrect on this issue),and as for living in the past who gives a sh1t, its the present day where the problems are beggining to unfold, not in the past. sure times may have been hard, but that goes for everything in life, no good looking and living it, concentrate on the present.

Why do people persist in perpetuating this myth that the club releases no information? I fully agree that Club communication could be improved (what I would give for a site as plentiful in information as Altrincham's for example), but it's not as if they're not telling us anything at all. As for there supposedly being no press releases about 'plans', what about the time frame for the works on the Northfleet End that was posted on the official website? Of course, if the work is delayed past this time-scale, the Club will take the flak for that as well. So, in this specific instance, they're damned if they release information and damned if they don't.

the club have set aobut 10 dates for the work on the northfleet end to commennce over the past year or so, so theres no point in taking any notice when they set dates.

I know a few are against the new seats going in, but for me I think it is a improvement, and will make the ground look tidier.
The work may seem as if it has also closed the ground it, but that could create more atmosphere in my opinion.
The only negative side to it that I can see is the unwanted cost at this present moment in time

Just something else for the Perpetually Pathologically Negative Brigade to complain about.

If it's not done by the start of the season, I shall remove my rose tinted spectacles take up residence by the tea hut with other like minded sour old farts and make outrageous advances towards the lot of them
