Has Sven been consulting RT on formations.

Despite his preference for 4-4-2. when you look at the current players available, it loks to me ideally made for a 4-1-3-1-1 formation similar to England.

Mitten

Prtotheroe Trott, Donovan Skinner

Deen

Abbott Mckimm Jackson

Pinnock

Hockton

At our level and with our quality MM is there any need to play with a sitting midfielder? Against a top team in the FA Cup such as a Conference side or a League side that would be an excellent formation but against almost every team in this league we should be looking to take the game to them. Teams will come to Hartsdown and hope for a 0-0.

Englands formation was "sh**!" They didnt perform at all.3-1 winners but didnt they struggle? They need to pick things up enormously to have a chance of progressing. Only two good dead ball kicks from Beckham really gave us the victory. Still the Germans came back from 2 down to draw 2-2 at home to Japan though these results are expected of their squad. Poland got beat at home too to Colombia so maybe our result even with such a dire performance wasnt as bad as I thought.Improvement HAS to come about though. Better teams will rip us to shreds playing like that. I hope this is a wake up call for them all.

But like at our level-pre-season(cup) friendlies ) mean very little.

What i did note was how effecitive Beckhams hard and quick delivered free kicks and corners were.

Hopefully we will see alot of that at HDP next season, with no more gentle floated powder puff corners and free kicks, but Protheroe, McKinmm and Skinner delivering hard and fast corners and free kicks just needing the merest touch from Pinnock and Hockton to deflect into the opponents net.

We wasted so many corners and free kicks last season

You would think so MM with the reputations they have for doing such things. Those crosses are indeed the best.Gives the tacking team,as you say, more chances at scoring.Proths,if I remember often overhit his crosses last year.Maybe thats because our pitch is so small perhaps. Lets hope, again as you mention, that these guys really can deliver a telling ball. The formation of 4-1-3-1-1 didnt really show to be affective last night.I cant see it be deployed here.I certainly wouldnt like to see it being used here.AS GW says not in this grade of football.Sven will be adopting a more comfortable formation once the world cup comes I'm sure.Yes it was a friendly but it was a game where we should have annihalated them yet we were seen to be hanging on at times, especially at 2-1.I'm sure Sven will have learned from last night.

I wouldn't let McKimm take them <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" /> but Jacko's yer man for set pieces.

Cookie-i'm certainly not advocating 4-1-3-1-1 or whatever it was.

4-4-2 for me and above all keep it simple.

My point was simply that the (current) players we had seemed to lend itself to 4-1-3-1-1 as in particular it gave a role to Hasim in defensive midfield and Pinnock as deep striker.

Hoping to see another striker and central defender signed up soon

Defence DOES need sorting out before the season begins.I agree.Trotty will have it all in hand I'm sure.Mind you with all the midfielders we have,& you have mentioned this on several occasions, the ball shouldnt REACH the defence. But we have to be prepared for it!

If teams can't get through the midfield they will resort to pumping the ball forward. However we should be fine with this. The problem last season came when teams broke through the centre and were given too much space and time to create in the final third. That won't happen with our new steely midfield signings. McKimm will be massive for us this season.
