I want to sign for the fleet

Recommended Posts

Due to the lack of movement by Daish in the transfer market(everybody except us seems to be signing players). I am putting myself forward for a contract 2yrs will do £100 pound a week perfect. Here's my cv

45 yrs old(with a routund belly)

16 stone of pure ********

Former triallist with Wimbledon (honest) when they played at plough lane.

2 good feet

Good with the head.

On a more serious note, i know of a player at Bishop Storford who wants away, played against us in the F.A Trophy, looking to go full time, Rob Gillman is his name, would it be worth contacting the club to have a look at him........

On a more serious note however, yes you are right...most other clubs have started to sign players for next season.

No doubt he is waiting until all the best available players have been snapped up, so that we can chose from whats left, on the cheap.

Probably won't see any movement on this front until about two weeks before the pre-season friendlies start, just so that we can use the first 4-5 league games as trial matches! (Like previous seasons)

While we ought to be worried at the lack of activity in the tansfer market, a couple of things to take on board.

1. As far as I know, the transfer window doesn't reopen until July - true, you can sign out-of-contract players or make pre-contract agreements, but the bulk of activity isn't likely to take place in May.

2. Also as far as I know (and I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong) but I seem to recall most league players' contracts don't expire until end of May/beginning of June. Youth and fringe players often don't have their contracts renewed early in the close season, but the bulk of players aren't free until June.

3. Your statement "everybody except us seems to be signing players" is just plain wrong. The only clubs to have brought in new players in the close season are Aldershot, Burton, Dagenham and Kidderminster (one player each) and Forest and Tamworth (two players). That's hardly everybody, and they're not exactly signing them by the bucketload yet.

I'll be as worried as you if we're in this situation in another four weeks, but until the market actually reopens as such, I'm not losing too much sleep.

It's June the 1st according to this.

You're right, though - a team's number of signings by the end of May is by no means an indicator of how big and settled the squad will be by the commencement of the new season.

But the best ones don't get snapped up first, players at any level always think they can play at a higher level and many will not sign for any club while thay have a chance of trialling for a club in a higher league.
There will be many trialists not offered contracts at Southend, Gillingham, QPR etc desperate for a club in August who wouldn't dream of signing for any Conference club in May.
You are right about choosing from whats left on the cheap though that's his job.

Of course, because what he should be doing is running around like a headless chicken signing anyone and everyone cos we only have 4/5 players for next season....
Then again even if he had snapped up players now people would be moaning, saying it was too early and that they were crap, or a left back(even though we need one!!)

In the end if Daish can do what he did last season:
Get safe around xmass period, even after 4/5 dodgy starting games.

In theory we should support that ( Well I will definately be supporting it!) and then after we are safe and his contract is up see what position we are in, and whether there is someone better suited to the task.
In the end I can forsee us not getting that person due to our budget, altho I am probably wrong there

I would like to put myself forward.

I could have played for Leeds , Man chester United , Livepool or Arsenal.

So you probably really have got more talent in one finger than I've got in my whole body.

The problem with that theory is that the club can't afford to have 4 or 5 dodgy games at the start of the season, as that will be enough to turn away any new supporters that may turn up at the start of the new season and once again start to raise all the same questions about why attendances are going down for yet another season.

Quite clearly when the transfer window opens, certainly in the 'Fleets case, is irrelevant.

If comments about budget availability for next season is to be believed then the number of players that will be joining for next season by way of a transfer from another club will be nil.

More likely any player that does join, will come either by means of a loan, or more likely that they have been released by another club.

As I understand the way the transfer window works is that if a player is not signed by any club, ie. they have been released or have had their contract cancelled etc., then they can be signed by another club outside of the 'window'.

That is what I find worrying, a number of players, with Conference experience, have been released and already snapped up by other Conference clubs, so what are we doing? .....certainly looking from the outside, it would appear 'bugger-all'.

Either that or waiting for the transfer window to re-open so that we can look to sign one or more of the players that have been released by their previous clubs.....only to find that perhaps some of the better players are no longer available as they have already committed themselves to new clubs for next season!

Again, to repeat my earlier statement above - "the only clubs to have brought in new players in the close season are Aldershot, Burton, Dagenham and Kidderminster (one player each) and Forest Green and Tamworth (two players)".

There may have been one or two more since that statement (Clist to FGR is a good signing), but it's clear that this mass Conference snapping up of other Conference players just isn't happening at the moment. You're right that it may well happen and we may well be left behind, but you make it sound like we're the only ones not signing anybody, which from the evidence above is clearly not the case.

So why wait until everybody else starts signing players, we should try to get in early.

And remember with 11 players gone and just 5 signed for next season, our needs are considerably greater than the others.

How do you know this? Why would we, as fans, know specific examples of attempts the club makes to sign new players anyway?

Your argument would probably be more robust if you didn't keep making the same factual error that Stu keeps correcting again and again.

I can't believe you missed out the greatest negative thought of all.........The players that are left will be demanding such high wages, that the Fleet won't be able to afford them because of the clubs reduced budget!

Do you expect the club to say daily that 'We tried to sign player a but he told us to go forth and multiply'?
I'm sure all something like that would do would be to deter other players even further.
