More bad news, it appears - the Reporter indicates that he's gone back to Northampton for pre season training as their manager, Colin Calderwood, wants to give him a chance.

Daish is also quoted as saying hes been after Alex Revell right from the very start "but he might be out of our league now as league clubs are interested - but you never know".

Lastly, Jason Botley's comments back up everyones thoughts that the part timers were pushed out for the sake of full time footie "We're committed to ourr transition to full time football. We started last year and we're now accelerating that"

Compare these comments with those of Brian when the full-time transition was first announced (sample quote: "We have many excellent players who have served the club well and want to keep them"), and it is clear that the club's plans have changed overtly since the move was first made public.

It's a fascinating question.

Then again, as we've seen, certain part-timers can earn more than certain full-timers, meaning that (in theory at least) a totally full-time squad could be run more cheaply than a completely part-time one. Perhaps youth versus experience is the more important budgetary issue than part-time versus full-time.

He's set for a £20,000 move to Boston according to today's NLP.

Also in this esteemed publication this week, I discovered a 'boring' ex-Fleet player news gem: Gavin Rose has resigned as Beckenham Town boss.

I'm possibly deserving of some anorak award for having made the last three posts in this thread, but there you go.

Yesterday's NLP also had these items of note:

1) Paul Booth was 'reportedly' a transfer target of ours this summer.

2) The 'NLP Business Monthly' supplement had interviews with Brian and Jason. Sample quote from Jason:

Quote:
Jason Botley said:Wholesale changes are the last thing this club needs

This was referring to the boardroom reshuffle of the last few weeks, and not on-the-pitch matters. But then you knew that already.

There seems little chance of the Fleet stumping up 20K for any player given the current situation so I guess that rules GNFC out then. Still, at least it shows that Liam can spot talent, as to his credit he was chasing Revell last season - probably before any League Clubs became interested.

With regards to Beckenham Town, maybe someone like Paul Vines with 27 goals last season is more within our price bracket.

Welling signed Danny Kedwell from Herne Bay (Kent League) last season, who proved this season he could score goals at Conference South level. Okay, so there's a bit of difference between the Conference South and National but it would do no harm to at least look at a few of the "top" Kent League players.

I think that you'll find that Revell was in demand last season by a number of other Conference clubs but stayed with Braintree due to his contractual commitments and the fact that they were likely to win their league.

So much for Mick Woodward's claim that none of his club's players would be following Stimson to Broadhall Way.

Yeah! I hear Dave Bostock is looking for a team as well.

I'm not necessarily advocating an attempt to sign Booth, but he didn't get much opportunity to show what he could do in the Conference with us, and has been consistently prolific in the division below. That's no guarantee that he'd be a Conference success, of course, but given that in our four years in this spell in the Conference none of our players have scored more than a dozen league goals in a season, he might not do a lot worse than most.

Did Booth not sign for Cambridge because he wanted to be nearer his home

Perhaps he meant in the Iain Dowie sense of "wanting to be nearer his home" which is actually "being as far away from possible as long as they wave a load of ready cash in your face"?
