Grays Athletic have appointed former Farnborough Town manager, Frank Gray, on a 2 year contract

Following a selection process of some outstanding applicants from all levels of football, Grays Athletic have appointed Frank Gray on a 2 year contract.

Frank is a dedicated individual and has had success in the conference with Farnborough Town and would like to continue that success with Grays Athletic.

Mick Woodward, Grays Athletic Chairman, said that he is extremely happy with the appointment.

Frank will be bringing in Gerry Murphy as his No2

Frank is a former Scotland international who had a top flight career as a defender with Leeds United and Nottingham Forest and was the only player to line up for two different English sides in two European Cup Finals.

I should think that Mick Woodward is "extremely happy with the appointment", David. He will have made it.

How about 'Modern Love' by David Bowie this afternoon, David. Please give a mention to The Mighty Saints if that doesn't contravene your agreement with Ricay.

"Steal your contacts" TC? It never entered my head.

I don't know anything about the wireless lark, and I wouldn't want to write David Baker's script but I had in mind that he could say:

"And here are good wishes for 06/07 sent to Billercay Town from The Mighty Saints. St Albans City FC, just promoted from the Conference South to the Conference Nationale, the highest level of the football pyramid what they have ever got to. They play at Clarence Park, St Albans, and welcome fans, old and new on match days. Admission prices at their fine old ground are [to follow]. Colin Lippiatt and the t'lads in yeller and blue would be plaesed to see you on Saturday afternoons, fixture details from the Secretary's office on 01727 -----. They would like us to play David Bowie's 'Modern Love. Good luck to the Saints, too. And here it is pop-pickers......"

...or something along those lines.

While we're on the subject, here's a quiz question for you: "Van Morrison wrote the smash hit song 'G-L-O-R-I-A'. What was the name of the band what he recorded it with in errr.. er.. um.. a long time ago?" [People who look up answers on Google are disqualified from answering.]

Err... Nope.

That's not quite the right answer, Sidney. It's the name of a band that we are looking for. Van Morrison wrote it and sang it with .... who?

Would you like to have another guess? Phone in again on the usual number.

Don't know a lot about music, but I think you'll find that was Roger Daltry, singing with Who?

Nope, Rick.

You're closer than our good friend Sidney, but it wasn't The Who. Van doesn't do covers. Well not in the early days and not often now.

Just wait till Gazza gets back and sees this thread. He'll be so cross that he's missing it. He has a rudimentary knowledge of music and he would be loving this.

[i bet you're singing it in you rhead now, Rick. It will be with you all day until someone gets it!]

Err... I was borne and brought up in Essex, BC, so it can't be that.

There is a song called G-L-O-R-I-A, written by Van Morrison. It's difficult to sing it via the keyboard but it goes something like G! dumdidumdum, L! dumdidumdum O! dum etc and then after the A! dumdidumdum, the next bit is G L O R I Aaaaa, Gloria etc etc.

Now that isn't 'have I told you lately that I love you', nor 'Brown Eyed Girl' nor even 'Magic Time'. The song is called G.LO.R.I.A.

The question is 'What was the name of Van morrison's band what first recorded GLORIA?' Well, more accurately, that was the question.

Rick got it right in his last post.
