New, exciting brand of Football

Recommended Posts

A rather interesting quote from last week's Gravesend Messenger.

Daish disclosed "As things stand we have to face significant reductions in the players' budget for next season. However, I'm upbeat and possess a hard core of players, who can only get better."

"With a group of new, hungry faces I want to bring an exciting brand of football to the Club."

With all the discussion last season about the style of football at the Fleet, this at least sounds promising.

Although to be fair, his hard core only extends to the 5 players actually signed on and contracted at present.

Or is it six? It's rather strange to see Daish's comments in last Thursday's Distorter, which seem to imply that Holloway is already a part of next season's squad. Clarification on this would be welcome.

I think that if Holloway wasn't already signed up then Kerr would have been.

They are both good keepers but as has been pointed out many times on here we cannot afford the luxury of two full-time keepers, although funnily enough we only ended up with the two of them because we had no keeper at all going into pre-season and Aaron was signed up before Craig became available.

I hope if we were ever to be short of players pre-season again nobody would advocate signing the first player that came along rather than waiting until the right player became available...what do you think Mikefleet?

Based on what evidence? The dodgy game or two he had pre-season or the pretty reasonable display he gave towards the end of the season with a longer run in the team?

Whilst I accept that his performances towards the end of the season were an improvement on what went before, and accept that it would appear that he had benefitted from full-time training, I maintain my original opinion on Kerr, ie that he was not up to Conference standard and over a season would prove to be a liability.

Whilst on the subject of 'keepers, whether they be full-time or part-time. Now that Kerr has gone and the club did get some adverse comments (rightly so in my opinion) on this forum for having two full-time keepers when quite clearly under the budgetry restraints that the 'Fleet are under a part-time second choice 'keeper would have been sufficient, what will happen on the goalkeeper front for next season. As there does not appear to be any place in the squad for pert-time players anymore, Kerr's replacement will I guess have to be another full-time second choice goalkeeper. A second season of playing full-time wages to a player who spends most of the season sitting on the bench.

Or we could put the Pase lad on the bench and get in a replacement keeper on loan if Craig gets injured and looks like missing a few.

Incidentally why do you call yourself White Van Nistelroy.....was Moaner Lisa already taken?

You cannot base that on the pre-season games, he lacked match practice!

Speaking from a keeper's point of view, both are very good keepers, certainly up to Conference standard.

Having both on full time contracts was just plain wrong.

Not only was is very expensive, but it was unfair to the reserve who would spend most of the season on the bench.

Keepers need games, not endless training sessions.

Jason should bite the bullet, and instruct LD to go for a young part time keeper who can work with Ron to improve and eventually push for a first team place. He would not expect too many opportunities, but no doubt would leap at the chance with relish.

If the regular keeper gets injured, at least you have a registered reserve.

Hmmmm, a young keeper....that'd be the Pase lad.
Who can work with Ron and improve....yes Pase lad again.
Would not expect too many opportunities....still sounds like the Pase lad.
Would leap at the chance with relish....No, you've got me there C.G. who would leap at the chance of getting slaughtered by our miserable fans?
