PRESS RELEASE: Ground force required!

Recommended Posts

CLARENCE PARK is set for a makeover this summer as Saints gear up for an exciting campaign in the Nationwide Conference.

And your club needs you!

With Alan Tichmarsh and Co unavailable, promoted Saints are setting up their own Ground Force to spruce up the stadium ready for the big kick-off on August 12.

Dressing room improvements are being completed by professional contractors but volunteers are needed for a variety of painting jobs around the ground, as well the bar, which is being upgraded.

On top, there is weeding and other improvements are needed –including to the toilet facilities - to make Clarence Park a fitting place to welcome bigger crowds and a high quality of football next season.

“We want to make the best of what we have,” says St Albans City chairman John Gibson. “We’re already in talks about a new stadium and hope to make real progress over the next year or so but in the meantime we want to make Clarence Park as good as we can.

“We want it be as welcoming as we can make it for our own fans as we try to improve facilities to reflect the higher quality of football on the pitch.

“We will also be enjoying good facilities at some big grounds, like the Kassam Stadium at Oxford and St James’s Park, Exeter and in return we want the big numbers of fans they bring to Clarence Park to be properly catered for.

“If any of our fans can spare time over the summer, and can use a paint brush, we would be very grateful for their help.”

Anyone willing and interested can contact club secretary Steve Eames, who is co-ordinating the summer’s ground improvements, on: 07985 524942 or at the club either in person or on 01727 864296. Club Director and Super Snapper, Leigh Page, will be at the ground from 10.00am on Saturday.

Hard work, much much thanks for all those who gave up a couple of hours on Saturday.

The works are come on well, the dressing room refurbishments have progressed well, The main stand has been prepared for its facelift, The general tiding has gone extremely well.

We have lots more to do and any assistance would be much appriciated

My sources inform me that great works have been going on at the Home Of Football and the changing rooms, showers and directors' lounge have undergone a complete transformation. Even the main stand has turned a striking shade of blue!

However, there is still a lot to do so if you can spare even just an hour or two, get down to the Park on Saturday or Sunday from 10 am onwards and your help will be most welcome! Come and join the lads!

I know it's a bit late but when the local scout hut here needs a new lick of paint, offenders serving community service orders do the work. It's one way to make sure they pay for their TV license in future.

Not sure how the volunteers would take to have others working a punishment along side. Also, not sure if being a limited company would rule the club out of getting help. Of course, a place like St Albans probably doesn't have any offenders anyway......
