Ryman Premier to Ryman 1 North Decision

Recommended Posts

I've not been able to get on for a few days, so I thought I would just post the reasons behind this decision.

As I'm sure you're all aware if you attended the last meeting, read the papers, heard interviews etc, our aim was always to be Southern League East, or whatever it was restructured to be (now effectively the Ryman 1 North).

It was also said at the time that this wasn't our decision, but instead the National Game Board and the FA would decide our fate.

When I heard we had been put in the Ryman Premier I was ecstatic! The thought of playing teams like Ricay, Chelmsford, AFC Wimbledon etc was brilliant. Then, after speaking to others, it became apparent that this route may not be our best option.

I believe that it is true to say that we would have got a higher gate average in the Ryman Premier, but not necessarily for the right reasons. Okay, we'd get the likes of AFC and Chelmsford bringing a few, but would this help rebuild a fan base for ourselves?

What we need to keep as a central thought is that together we are rebuilding a Football Club, and that means laying the foundations for the future. Had we entered the Premier, there is a very good chance that we would be battling relegation. Just look what that has done to our attendances since we've been in the Conference.

At Ryman 1 North level, John Batch believes that we can definately (along with some additions) compete and produce entertaining matches, and I definately agree with him. This will give the people of Canvey a team that they feel can win matches - something that the fringe supporters want to see.

Financially, the standard of player we would have to bring in to compete in the Premier would not have fallen within our capabilities. The extra gate revenue would not have offset these costs, so was not an option if we want a sustainable club.

I know many people have said things along the lines of "even if we lose every game I will still support Canvey." This is true for me as well, but why lose every game when we can compete? The hardcore (aka most people on here) will always support the club, but it's the part time supporters we need to change into full-time fans.

We're all in this for the long-term, and a one off season wouldn't do our long time goals any good.

I hope this clears a few things up in regards to why this move was requested and subsequently granted.

See you all Thursday <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

I understand you view Glen but the club will suffer by not playing in the Ryman Premier.

Will will now probably lose 150 - 200 off our home gates due to the less exciting team we will be playing against..

We would of played in the Ryman Premier next season but due to Jeff King stipulating that he would not hand the club over unless we resigned from the Ryman Premier..

Im very concerned that this FACT is being brushed under the carpet..

We will suffer financially for not playing in the Ryman Premier..

Also the current prices for next year must be revised as £ 7 to 8 is to steep for Ryman 1 North

I agree a pound should be shaved off the adult prices in conjuncture with the demotion, however I think this season, the Club are making the most of having it at 8 quid cause they can.

I read somewhere on here, (think it was one of the Enfield forums) that the maximum price on admission prices is 7 quid for this league but newly relegated clubs like ourselves are given a sort of reprieve for the first season they're down and can literally charge whatever they want.

If we're still in this league next season, I believe the price will have to be reduced. Saying that though, should we even contemplate promotion at this early stage of the coming season the prices should be frozen for Ryman Premier.

If we are winning, it will not matter who we play. People WILL turn up. They did when we were in the lower divisions before when we were winning and they will again.

Of course, we have to win the games first but i have no doubt this is not a thing that should have breath wasted on anymore. We are there now and i don't see a problem with us coping and taking the club back up again.
