Looking Forward

For the 1st time in 3 seasons i am looking forward to a new season with confidence. What a relief to be able to say after such a short period of time since the last ball was kicked, we know who our midfield is and, what a Midfield. I cannot say to much about Mckimm but Protheroe (we all know) and young Abbot both have Skill pace and determination, neither are afraid to get stuck in and both are winners. Bring on the Fa cup, Fa Trophy, and the league title. Lets get the local bragging rights back home so bring on the Rams or when we chopped there naggers of the Hoggets.

The strongest Margate midfield for a very very long time Brayley, Gradley, Keister, Sesay, Standen, Deen, Abbott, McKimm, Protheroe, who the hell do you pick from there.

Up Da Gate!!!

JK not on the retained list. Hasim Deen plays as pacier half back. Pat Gradley on Match to match as he as played only 18 games in the last 2 seasons due to injuries. So it thins out a little but, it's nice to have a choice, makes a change. Or it makes for an interesting reserve side.

I agree looking strong for next season.

Still think we need 2 more proper strikers to complete the line up & a defender.

Cant wait for new season. Have already told boss I aint working the weekend of first home match, Im coming to see MFC WIN!!!

Brilliant news today.Confidence sky high for the new season now! That must be a large proportion of the budget used up I would think.Well used too, might I add.

Agree another striker needed and posibly another or two defenders too but not expecting too big a name with future signings.Am well satisfied with the core of the team now.Bring it on!!!!

[color:"blue"]I'd think just two strikers & a reserve keeper are needed.

Think that we'll use Trott,Oates,Donovan,Standen,Abbott & Deen at the back. Sesay,Keister,Protheroe,Gradley,McKimm and Brayley in midfield.

So 3 spaces to fill ... and it's not the end of May yet!

Ill be able to make some games this coming season, which is good since I was worried a few months ago I wouldnt be able to. I made 6 games last season, excluding the Ramsgate friendly. I hope I can make some away games this season as well as doing the normal MISA things I do and going to some home games. Living in Cliftonville now, if there are any places needing posters or whatever, let me know. Im going to try and make an effort this year with the adverts in Thanet Life, as I slacked a bit last year.

Deen is wasted at the back so thats another midfielder.Paul is another wide midfielder so yet again there is another central player..Standen's not really a full back so theres a further midfielder. He will probably play better there too.(not a dig)

We need two specialist defenders, preferably a full back & proper defender alongside of Trotty.

Up front I agree we need another striker, possibly two & the squad should be assembled. A back up Keeper also.

So in summing up:

1)A specialist full back,

2)A specialist central defender,

3)One,possibly two strikers,

4)A back up goalkeeper.

My guess is that as it stands now Sesay & or Brayley will be up front with Danny.

I am not expecting major players here but some that are at least solid, hard working and skilful in some part. This would give us a squad of 17/18 players. Some of these would be able at times manage to cover other positions also.

If the budget can stretch to more quality players then all well & good but somehow I doubt we shall get anymore in the class of Proths or Mckimm to name just two.Even now,as it stands, the squad looks good anyway.

However, having said all that it will be interesting to see JUST who,if anyone else Trotty can manage to get hold of with the money thats left from the original budget.

Quality ,not quantity for me.

I'd ideally like to see two class signings-one striker and one central defender.

Then maybe an 'up and coming ' goalie and similar young promising striker.

Maybe RT will want to play 4-5-1 hence all the midfield players.

Nothing wrong with that .

Not only have we now got a talented midfield, but probably one of the toughest going.

Standen,Protheroe,Mckimm,,abbo, keister, even gradley-no pussycats in that little lot.

we may need 7 midfield players to cover all the sending offs !!

Well if you want those FOUR players MM" you still get the "Quantity" as I believe that would also bring the tally up to 17. Further "Quality" would indeed be great but how much do you think there is left in the locker to spend? If Trotty has indeed got something left to spend on another "starlet" then great, great, great.

We will just have to wait & see but with the signings he has astutely made already I dont think any of us could complain if no others WERE forthcoming.I think most of us are well happy with his work so far both on the field & off it.Any further additions to the squad(if quality) would indeed be a BONUS from here on end.

15 quality and two 'improvers'= 17.

at anyone time you have on average 3/4 players unavailable due to suspension/injury.Thus you need a minimum squad of 17 as you can only play up to 14 in a match anyway.

I think most squads settle on 19/20 players.

17 would in my inexperienced eye just about do, if they were ostensibly quantity.

sorry for the waffle-i think in a roundabout way we agree anyway.

what a great day

Agree with your list of targets Cookie. Priorities have to be a good striker to partner Danny, and a keeper who is good enough to fill in for Charlie while not being too expensive wage-wise. Next I would go for a specialist left back (in an ideal world we would have 3 left footed players in the squad minimum). A specialist centre back would be the next target. Must have pace. Finally then a decent striker who doesnt take too much out of the wage budget. Its going to be a challenge to snap up these final few pieces in the jigsaw.

Goalkeepers

Charlie Mitten (gk)

*(sub keeper)

Defenders

Robin Trott (cb)

Greg Oates (rb)

James Donovan (cb)

Hasim Deen (cb,cm)

Dean Standen (lb,lm)

*(left back)

*(centre back)

Midfield

Lee Protheroe (rm,cm,rb)

John Keister (cm)

Steve McKimm (cm)

Bertie Brayley (lm,fwd)

Pat Gradley (cm)

Paul Abbott (rm,lm,cm)

Osman Sesay (rm,lm,fwd)

Strikers

Danny Hockton (fwd)

*(first choice striker)

*(back-up striker)

On second thoughts after looking at the list do we really need another centre back. On the face no. We have Donovan, Deen and Trotty. But Hasim is a bit injury prone so maybe we do need more cover?

Just my thoughts and playing Ron Manager as usual <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />

The squad is starting to come together now. Unfortunately (for myself), it seems that I will not be able to make many games next season, as I will be working on a Saturday. If anyone knows any jobs where I can work on a Sunday instead, please let me know. I only want it part-time, but still want to follow the Gate!
