5 MORE GONE!!!

Recommended Posts

Conclusions to be drawn here:

1) The club, by a foolishly swift attempt at full time football, has lost for good the one player who would give 110% every week and who would always put in a good performance for the Fleet.

2) The club, by appointing the most boring and possibly the most inept manager I've seen in my time down the Fleet, has alienated supporters (as shown in last season's attendances and has added to this by releasing so many quality players.

3) The club moans about our Ryman League budget and cites this as the cause of our predicament and the reason for the search for new young talent, yet surely, with a budget this poor, full-time football was never viable.

4)The club, for these reasons, will be relegated next season unless Daish has some David Blainesque tricks up his sleeve.

5) The club will have to pick up the pieces which were created by its own rashness either one level down or, if this shambolic farce continues, further adrift.

Dark days indeed....

I have never criticised decisions made by any manager at our club, but I really have serious doubts now as to whether it is just easier to 'manage' a group of full time youngsters eager to get the opportunity to play football full time, than it would be to have one or two older experienced players part time whom would maybe not be so easy to 'manage'. Has J.J. definitely proved that it would be impossible for him to fit in with most of the training. Would it not have been worth maybe some evening training to retain some of our more valuable part timers. I never thought that I would feel I can't be bothered with it any more, but to see the club stripped of some of its older better players really makes me wonder what is really going on. It is a good job we have a committed Fleet Trust as we may need them to re-launch us in the future. How I hope that I am wrong.

So as I understand it (and I'm not sure I do), is Jacko a victim of being part-time and not being able to train in the day rather than he doesn't fit into the budget?

I would presume Gooding has been released because we offered him a lesser contract?

And maybe Kerr, Glozier and Fuller simply weren't felt to be up to the task/surplus to requirements (not that we have a surplus of anything just now!).

I've never criticised Liam Daish on this forum before. There have been times when I have wanted to comment but chosen not too. In fact, I don't think his done a bad job if you look at some of the players his brought in such as the 2 Smith's, Bowry and McDonald. I also feel his received a rough ride generally from the fans on here and the budget cuts next season makes his task even more difficult.

However, the move to "full-time " football just seems to be an excuse to get rid of the part-time players.

Just in case the management aren't aware; By getting rid of the part-timers such as McKimm, Skinner and Jackson you are effectively "ripping" the heart out of the Club.

The fans now have no "characters" to identify with, which causes people to become disillusioned. I'm sorry for making such a negative post but the news of Jackson being released is in my opinion very disappointing.

How many posts have we seen on here all season about not needing two full-time goalkeepers and having too many left backs. I thought Glozier may have done enough to be retained and although Aaron did ok at the end of the season I think Craig was excellent for the first two thirds.
I can't believe Jacko will not be there next season.

On behalf of everyone connected with the club I would like to express my sincere thanks to ‘Jacko’ for everything that he has done for the club, he is a consummate professional and has been a great ambassador for Kent football over a long period of time - we wish him every success for the future”. These are LD's words today on the news of JJ's release by the club. I think in the long run we will discover he was discarded because he was the consummate SEMI-professional. These are very worrying times for all who support the Fleet

Cannot complain about Kerr, Gooding and Fuller, but why get rid of Glozier and JJ. Of course, they know what LD is really li

e and may not have even wanted to stay - there are better managers to play under in Kent - scores of them!

The nail has been firm hit into the coffin lid for next season, I wonder if Slats would have signed a new contract tommorrow?

You would have thought in the current climate that some sort of reassurance at least would be given. Maybe we should be resigning from the league like Canvey unless Daish has an impending seven signings up his sleeve!

Anyone want to join in:

10 red players siting on the wall
10 red players sitting on the wall
And if one red player should accidentally fall...
...there'll be nine red players left to play football...

Repeat until zero...
haha what is going on i cant even see us signing enough players to play next year maybe just scrap 11 players and then not be fit enough to play a full game

This is a total disaster, as has been stated the real Fleet men have been discarded AKA JJ,Skins and Macca, and all for Daish's full time ideology ( your'e either with me or against me)

I really fear for not only next season but for the club in general, once again I reiterate

we should be moving forwards on the field not backwards.

I can accept the fact that maybe Skins was not the player he was and maybe Macca, after his injury was maybe in the same boat, in that sense we must move on but that can't be the case with Jimmy, just because of the training!! get real Daish

a lame excuse.

Indeed - there's no guarantee he'll still be here next season. Aaron, when called upon this season just gone, generally performed very well.

Will there be a testimonial for Jacko?

He's already had one - he played against a Charlton XI in 2000.

what the f**ks going on

It's not so much a question of the number of players released - most teams in non-league football undergo major upheaval in their squads in the close season. It's more a question of who's been released. Interesting to note that we now have just one part-timer in the first-team squad - Paul McCarthy, and we're not even sure whether he'll be at the club this coming season. This is a speed of transition between part-time and full-time that none of us could have envisaged, I suspect.

It looks like Jacko's departure is the straw that has broken the camel's back for most people with regard to their opinions of the way the club is being run. There's little point in me repeating at length all the spot-on comments about Jacko above, regarding the needlessness of releasing a club legend still worthy of his place in the team just because he can't train during the day. What I will say is that I have always agreed with those on here who say that they will carry on going to games regardless of who's playing for us and who's in charge, because above all they support the Club. But right now I'm as close as I've ever been to disagreeing with this view.

Best of luck in the future to all the released players, but particularly Jacko, who has really become 'Mr. Gravesend and Northfleet' over the years. As regards the state of the Club at the moment and the breakneck switch to full-time football, I'll leave Thom Yorke to have the final word, in my signature:

Don't despair, JC. We can only hope the board see past LD's p/t prejudices and insist on having some in the squad.

I have never seen you write so depressingly, but it will prove a real headache attracting fans to see a brand new and largely unknown team.

Who can tell along which road LD is taking us, but it is looking increasingly like a relegation road.
