Retained Squad List

Recommended Posts

I'm very pleased with the retained list. Best of luck to Bill for the future. He has been brilliant for the club and I will be at his testimonial. Glad in many ways that Lawrence has been allowed to go. Maybe this was done by mutual consent. He just didnt seem to fit into the style of play. I am sure given the time that he will become a very good player. Dean Standen, some may see this as controversial but I thought he looked a lot better, much sharper, at the end of the season with RT's training regime obviously affecting all the players positively. He brings us a bit of versatility in that he can play both left back and left midfield and you need people like that if you want to win things. Cover is essential.

Assuming Bertie is going to be playing on the left wing this year this leaves just Danny up front. Osman clearly is a good utility player in that he would fill in on either wing or up front when required but I would think is primarily a right winger. Hasim is a centre back I think. This probably means we have enough cover here although if RT has the budget then it would be good to see someone else drafted in here.

In order of priority I think we need

1 top class striker (goes without saying),

1 keeper

1 right midfielder (Lee Protheroe, absolutely vital for his class, versatility in being able to cover for Oates and leadership),

1 left back (is DS going to be first choice - maybe not),

1 backup striker (not a priority as we have Bertie that can fill in and also Osman that can, but really 3 proper strikers is what every team gunning for promotion should have - you cant keep moving players from other positions and expect them to perform immediately which is what having only 2 strikers would lead to),

1 centre back (not a priority as we have Trott, Donovan & Deen but could probably do with someone else as a first choice alongside RT),

1 centre midfielder (although if Proths signs this probably isnt necessary as we have Keister, Gradley and also Hasim that can play here, although a couple of injuries and it would look threadbare without another centre midfielder)

Finally Im very pleased that Flanagan is staying.

I am abstaining from giving too much comment on ALL players both retained & released. Proof will be in the pudding.

"Results are what count...it's not how you start, but how you finish."

I will however state that I will accept anyone who Trotty sees fit to be retained therefore I start from scratch again with ALL players (inclusive)

2006/7 is another season under a different manager & maybe some players form will improve because of it. Criticism,if any will be made once games get under way.Hopefully all will pull their weight & criticism of any player will be minimal.Old criticism now goes out of the window. A new start!A level playing field! Amen!

Just out of interest, the official club press release of 9 Dec. did state that Allman had signed a contract as 'CK continues to build the side for next seasons title challenge'

In fairness, does not specifically state he had signed for next season, but as it is in the same press release as Donovan ,Deen,Bertie,Sesay the implication was that he was also signed for 2006/7 season.

Things change though i guess, and i for one am very happy with the retained list as it stands
