Good News!

Recommended Posts

Its with the most profound of apologies to W.V.N that I have to announce the news that Danny Slatter has signed a new contract for next season.

Terrible news indeed as it means the club has obviously done something right for a change!

Anyone any ideas how "The Angel of Doom" is going to turn this around into a negative statement?

Hopefully, with this proving the going to Dagenham rumour to be unfounded, other stories circulating the other Thursday at Hayes Lane will also be disproved.

Principal amongst those was the one about JJ & Welling. The Reporter article yesterday said the Club were hopeful of persuading Danny to sign, along with Bradley Johnson (so there's hope there too.) Unfortunately Jimmy was not mentioned. I hope this isn't significant.

If Jacko goes, wherever it is, I shall be truly disappointed. I felt he had another season at least left in him & he can meet the full time training demands, I believe.

As for Danny S, if Jimmy goes & with BB, SM & PM all departed, I wouldn't be at all surprised to see him as captain as he was, I think, at Chelsea (no, not the 1st team!) His performance at Bromley was full of an authority I'd never seen in him before & suggested to me he'd be ideal for the role.

Really don't care if McCarthy is upset or not about having the arm band taken away. On occasions he has shown a lack of discipline and a captain has to see the whole picture. Not sure who it should be, I would have said Bowry but as he's sadly departed, give the band to Ross Smith, in fact either of the Smith's could do a good job

I'm not sure where this theory that McCarthy has shown a lack of discipline on 'occasions' (plural) came from. What examples are there apart from the Woking dismissal the other week?

Just back from work.

And magically WVN has managed to turn a positive comment about Slatter's signing into a slagging off of McCarthy in less than 15 posts.... Congratulations!

And I stand by my original, Not realistic..... Negative, and all the rose tinted aviators in the World cant hide that!

I'll correct myself here. Of course Paul McCarthy has not been announced as departed yet. I was just sub-consciously lumping him in with the other experienced players who were released en masse.

To be honest, I think the reputation for ill-discipline is unfair; the Woking game was his only lapse that I can remember. He can get caught for pace, but he's been an asset much more than he's been a liability.

However, it's very likely that we were paying him more than we can now afford, considereing he initially turned us down for Hornchurch. So on balance still expect to see him go unless he's retained in some kind of coaching role.

As usual a normal coonversation about comings and goings at the club and who we think should be captain has been turned into some a little more sinister by some comments, particully by jc, why can't we have an opinion that differs from the 'party line', we don't live in the USSR yet. MaCarthy has shown a lack of discipline on a number of occasions, it's a fact not the raving of a certifiable mad man. It happens on hundreds of these type of sites all over the country, fans have a little fun having conversations about who should and shouldn't be in the side and therefore some of us think that with the two Smiths at the back MaCarthy won't be playing such an important role at the club next year if at the club at all
