Pre-Season Friendlies

Now we know which league we're in, I wouldn't mind seeing a few decent-ish friendlies down at Park Lane, especially if they know we're a charity case. I don't know what contacts Batchy has but I'd like to see a few of the following at Park Lane this pre-season:

Southend Utd

Colchester Utd

Leyton Orient

Ipswich XI

West Ham XI

Chelsea XI (I wish! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />)

Dagenham & Redbridge

St. Albans City

Gravesend & Northfleet

Grays Ath

AFC Hornchurch

The last two in particular would be a good chance of a bit of party atmosphere and to say thanks for the recent support. Could probably do something like a BBQ afterwards in an attempt to make them/us put a bit more over the bar etc.

I do not see why you won’t get conference or lower league opposition as last season Billericay had Barnet, Cambridge U and Orient we had finished RPL runners up that year but the year when we had been effectively into step 3 we still managed to get Southend and some other decent sides. I am sure you’re recent pedigree/ current plight should get you some decent money spinning friendlies

The difference is we will be starting with a new manager and new players who have never played at this level before. There`s no point playing strong sides and(maybe)getting stuffed before the team get`s a chance to adjust to this level. We need to play teams of roughly the same standard as what we will face in the league.

Maybe a few teams from Conf South, possibly Thurrock or Bishop's Stortford to test the team's ability.

I think it's really unrealistic to suggest possible friendlies with Southend or West Ham, Charlton or Colchester. Last season we were lucky to get a Charlton XI (though they tricked us!), so now we've dropped two divisions, why would they want to play us? Southend and Colchester won't see us as any kind of warm-up for Division One and they are way our of our league.

We'll probably be looking at Conference sides, Conference South and teams lower down than ourselves. Maybe a friendly with Hornchurch. If we're lucky we might get a Divsion Three side, but I won't hold my breath.

And only get 500 fans for most games in the Scottish third division.
