Ground development

Recommended Posts

Is starting imminently. Thank goodness. However, I am unsure who is likely to sit there though, as a better seated view is gotten from the main stand, and the "noisy" bunch formerly behind the goal may not want to drum, shout and chant sitting down.

Stand up to celebrate a goal and face ejection from the ground of course.

Still at least we can watch from 4 sides again.

Reading the post on the offcial website, it implies that the whole Nortfleet end is to be rebuilt and turned into a (500 seater) stand.

Perhaps Dave H has greater detail on the plans?

Not quite the answer I was expecting, but to an extent I sympathise with your viewpoint.

At the lower echelons of football (ie conference & below) it is almost expected that you stand behind the goal - and if you are an away fan you are often lucky to get a roof.

I was told on here by Dave H that seating the stand is actually cheaper than re-terracing it.

Not sure how that works out, but I guess it has to do with step widths and heights, gradients and height of roof above the head.

Having said that, the death traps at either end of Bromley's ground would be GUARANTEED to fail a safety inspection, one lad was almost impailed in the head by a broken advert board at one end, whilst the "benches" at the other were rotten with woodworm.

Another reason is because current rules regarding the gradient of terracing mean building a new terrace at that end wouldn't be possible, because the roof is too low. Old news articles on the official website point this out.

The Northfleet End terracing will be replaced by 513 seats, according to the last clarification of the nature of the repair works, dated 2/12/05 on the official site's news page.

I had the impression that the roof was to remain unaltered, especially due to the cost of a replacement. However, it would be nice if it could be painted so that it is just a uniform red ie without the unpainted panels showing and sticking out like a sore thumb.

With the news that Hartsdown Park is getting a major rebuild into a 5000 capacity stadium next year, and with Dartford and Maidstone set to enjoy new grounds (Dartford's looks very nice already), I hope that we move sooner rather than later, otherwise we will be the poor relation in terms of ground, in Kent non-league circles.

To that end I would hope that improvements to our present ground are kept to the minimum to keep it safe and legal.

Does anyone have a realistic timeframe for the new ground that Brian is aiming for?

What I can't quite understand is what is going to happen to all the 'lost' space.

As I understand it the reason for putting seats was primarily to do with the gradient of the terraces and the height of the roof. ie. one could not accomodate the other.

But putting in 500 seats? Surely 500 seats will be lost in what is quite a large area. What is going to happen to the rest of the space, surely not supporters standing either side of the seats, or in front, or behind??? None of which would be acceptable to those using the seats.

As work starts very soon, perhaps my questions will be answered. But at the moment I find it difficult to 'picture' quite how it will end up.

I wonder if the seats will be placed on the main stand side of the terrace - with 4 or 5 steps completing the stand.

Either way it will look "unbalanced", and I cannot see the need for the additional seasting unless we happen to qualify for the LDV trophy, or whatever it will be called.

But that is another thread.

I thought it had been explained a few times on here that the seating option was the cheapest option to get people back into the stand.
