Asamoah earns Ghana call-up

 

Derek Asamoah plays for English League Two side Chester

England-born striker Derek Asamoah has been given his first national call-up to represent Ghana in a pre-World Cup friendly.

 

Asamoah, who plays for the League Two side Chester, will join the squad ahead of Tuesday's friendly against French side Nice.

 

Coach Ratomir Dujkovic is seeking striking options in the wake of a potential injury crisis for Ghana just over one month before the start of the tournament in Germany.

 

Ghana are unsure over the availability of German-based forwards Matthew Amoah and Isaac Boakye, both of whom are battling injury.

 

The hastily-arranged match in France is Ghana's last before Dujkovic names his 23-man squad on May 15.

 

If the 25-year-old forward impresses Dujkovic, he could earn a shock place in Ghana's squad for the World Cup.
