chemlsford meeting

Recommended Posts

from a canvey fan who went to the meeting,

I was working late in Chelmsford so I decided to pop in and listen to their Q & A session.

This is not intended as a dig at them but, what a boring meeting!!!!!!

Jeff and his gang will get on just fine there, the place has no atmosphere, the supporters have no personality and nobody would dare challenge Jeff and his crowd in anyway.

Lovely facilities but they cant fill them, the bar is not used and the local community do not seem to support the social club.

They have come up with a really creative idea to drag the local community into the social club Bingo!

One guy suggested he had met his wife at a singles club and maybe they could have a singles night.

150 people there tonight, great cooking facilities only somebody forgot to tell "the chef" so there was no food.

They are only allowed to have the ground on certain days because the athletics club has priority and therefore are only allowed three pre season friendlies.

They wasted an opportunity, they had a new manager and their whole board infront of them and there was not one moment of controversy, dissent or even a slightly awkward question.

I learnt a lot from chatting to some of the supporters much of which it is best not post here.

They have only one player under contract, Jeff will be bringing his "whole backroom team and a number of players".

He has a players budget as Manager, he and his first team coach can get more "if they generate the income".

There will be no seat on the board or control over anything other than first team.

They have ambitions of developing their youth side and "expect players to come through" (that will be interesting).

150 people isn't that bad considering the number of supporters that kept going when the club were ground sharing at New Lodge. You have to also consider peoples personal commitment now the season is over.

What I also find surprising is a Canvey supporter making a judgement call at the attendance...on past game attendance's that would be aprox 50% of the Canvey home support. If you consider that fact, the attendance last night would be about 25% of the regular Chelmsford support...so not really a bad turn out considering (I would point out that I'm basing my calculations on Chelmsford's average "loyal" support on when they were ground sharing at NL and not just on the MP figures, which appear to be forgotten by the club).

Bingo, isn't that bad an idea. Our ladies team have tried it and it was a successful evening with cash made for the club. So much so, we're having another one. Plus another series of quiz nights, theme evenings and regular live events. If the social secretary (if they have one) can get certain stuff sorted out, the club will grow.

As I said, I find it amusing that you have posted a thinly veiled knock at Chelmsford when considering the (well publisised) state of your club. Now that is jealousy.

You also mention "budget". I have no idea if JK will put his hand in his pocket. Officially, he has said "no". Unofficially...no one knows. But, again, amusing that you raise that point here as JK's funding WAS Canvey's budget...in other words, it was whatever he wanted to put in and therefore, Canvey didn't really have one...again...a bit of the "green eyed monster" coming out, me thinks.

As it goes, it's nowt to do with me. As long as my club are fine and pushing in the right direction, I don't really give a stuff what Chelmsford do. When the season starts, it's a level playing field and they (like us) are there to be beaten. And like them, we'll be pushing for promotion...a healthy and competitive situation which will be full of the up's and downs of a football season.

I'm looking forward to it already...the football, the banter, meeting people and (sometimes smiling through gritted teeth ) the fair exchange of opinions.

So, Mr. Canvey supporter....Have the courage to post your thoughts on the "Soapbox" and leave us to think of our own and inventive ways to winding up our mid Essex cousins...

Personally, I had to agree with the sentiment "the place has no atmosphere, the supporters have no personality"!

So JK has finally landed at Melbourne. Christ I can't wait to play you lot. Jeff King managing his C***** old boys in Chelmo colours with Kings emblazened on the front, Quality! Keith, get that song book out!!

Banter aside, as I said, I don't really give a monkey's how Chelmsford is run. It's none of my business (likewise, for Billericay Town FC as far as Chelmo supporters are concerned) but someone from Canvey Island giving about attendances and budget was just too tempting (I did leave it a while to see if anyone else had a bite)...

It's a shame to see any rival go down (amusing but a shame). Clubs like Canvey can't sustain the level of funding unless either the support from the local area grows or the person funding the club gives up. JK did the latter. If you look at Chelmsford FC, it's location, it's history and it's "possible" potential for support, it's a club big enough for JK's wallet and ambition. There are many other pro's and con's that could be mentioned but as I am not aware of all the facts (and I doubt very much most Chelmsford supporters are either), I can't argue them...and see my first point.

As far as Billericay is concerned, we're just as ambitious as Chelmsford and next season will be a corker with the club continuing to grow, Matt Jones bringing players to tweak the team and a full social calender to bring in the revenue. We're certainly not perfect but we learn and then improve....it's progress. It has to be the same for both our clubs. It's exciting and no matter what we or Chelmsford do, lets not lose touch with the community side of our respective clubs...

What a surprise Lapdog logs on and comes out with that rubbish.

No atmosphere what you going on about??? We had 200 people there on Sat night and the place was buzzing.

Gazza have a word will ya.

I do like the idea of a home and away sporting function in both clubhouses.

I see our friend Sid has swapped his yellow shirt for a claret one, no surprise there.

Some interesting comments on the official statement, I find it hard to believe when smurfy says that no probing questions were asked, surely the Claret faith full have some?

Anyway, I like Gazz am looking forward to next season, and will take particular pleasure in taking points from our friends, and some foes, at Chelmsford next season.

Oh, yes, 150 at a fans meeting IS a good number smurfy.

BUB, BBB are they IN, or DE, flating after last nights meeting?

Good luck chaps

TC,

A few people were worried about JK motives, but they were told that he has no place on the board and can be sacked etc

He won't be pumping money in, but if he wants to pay for certain players out of his own pocket its upto him.

All his management team are coming along with 5 Canvey players and a few ex City players have been approahed.

It was nothing we didn't already know to be honest.

Some others may have a close season for Squatter baiting but mine lasts all year round. If you ask that nice Mr King, he might buy you all a personality!

I read somewhere that Canvey still had 3 players on contract but that they had been given a free transfer. presuming they were worth money ( one reputedly £25000) surely New canvey should get the money for these players or if they go to chelmo for free is this not a bit underhand when the manager and still apparently owner of another club moves players between clubs with no realistic fee being paid by the new club.

Ryan, I just don't understand it...

I thought your comment of "no atmosphere" was spot on. It's a valid opinion of which you have a right to voice.

The answer back was just the usual insulting garbage we come to expect from certain area's of Mid Essex...Obviously, the turth hurts.

Oh well...back to the baiting...

Been a busy time, but, whilst on coffee break in the studio where we have been trying to get the new riff for the new "thomas that tank meets jess the cat" series the footie was on the telly. Just then the lad who is a supporter of a certain team came bounding through the door humming a tune. Thomas and jess had to be put on hold So we decided we should go for a phono synthetestic approach, and some words were produced. Spent the rest of the night digitally remastering the lyrics and by dawn as the cockerals were about to decibel the country airwaves we knew we had the final version...Who knows, it may just be another toe tapping classic
