You have been watching too much of Gravesend 2006.!!!
You should have seen a certain Mr Portway in his pomp.
Now that boy really COULD score goals.

Beautifully summed up. Portway would never have scored goals with the same regularity in the Conference but the 450 (399 ?) of us who watched him regularly in the old Southern league Southern Division loved him. I travelled hundreds of miles from here to see him, week in , week out.
Now we are at the bottom of the full time game with its Daishs, cynical band wagon jumping fans and crap football, the incentive is gone.
On this theme of losing the spirit at a higher level, has anybody else noticed the number of teams that have dropped down to their original level - not just relegated but plummeted. Recent examples being Oxford, Cambridge, Hereford, Rushden & D,Dover,Canvey.

I was walking through a very quiet Cobham today and then all of a sudden Jimmy Jackson is running down the other side of the road, jumps into a massive tractor and drives off.

Heh heh. Do you favour the tracksuit or Big Ron-style sheepskin coat? I can't picture you in either...

You raise an interesting point, Stu M because in the world of youth football, image is everything !

I wear the standard issue club blue WJFC tracksuit, club name on back, initials on front left breast, but with rather fine (blue)Ron manager jacket over ( not a motty jacket, more an Andy Ford longer cut). In the colder weather my G&N ( who?) woolly hat is added, albeit the badge tends to move from the front round to the side with the stress of the technical area , which side depending on which way we're kicking.

I hope this helps create a suitable image of the new generation of managers working their way up through their badges !

ps If Glenn Roeder can get the Newcastle job then I may be fast tracked !!
