What a shame

Sven was called a dull non-risk taking manager.

He takes a few risks like everyone wanted...And then he gets grief for it. Brillaint

Either Bent or Defoe should have been included before a 17 year old who hasn't had a competetive match since January. Agree about Lennon. Looks everything that Shaun Wright-Phillips should have been, exciting, pacy and looks like a good sub to bring on late in the game to attack tired full backs.

There are three poor selections in my book: Hargreaves (jack of all trades master of none), Jenas (injured and unable to influence a game at this level imo) and Walcott (simply because he has yet to play for Arsenal and compete at the highest level of the domestic game).

Walcott may prove inspired - Owen made an impact in '98 which was fairly unexpected and Rooney made his debut at 17. So if Walcott is that sort of prospect (and Wenger clearly thinks so) it may prove a worthy gamble.

Defoe will be at the World Cup when either Owen and/or Rooney is withdrawn so there is no problem there.

Bent is raw and I would agree with Sven's assessment on him.

Lennon has been in excellent form and deserves his chances could be interesting to see him come in place of Beckham if necessary.

Walcott could be the greatest ever World Cup gamble, or the worst. I just hope the press let him get on with his preparations and that the World Cup itself doesn't affect him badly mentally, if he fails to perform. He's only 17 and won't necessarily burst on to the world scene like Owen and Rooney did, but he could be a great impact player.

I think Defoe has every right to be angry though as he has been in the England team before, even if he's only got 9 or so Premiership goals this season, and has been considered England's 3rd or 4th choice striker. I still think he'll make it on the plane though. I don't particularly rate Bent anyway (I'd rather have Sheringham I think - seriously), or Hargreaves. Lennon is a good choice and I'm not surprised SWP didn't make it.

I don't think Defoe or Bent are up to international standards. Walcott however could proved to be an inspired inclusion. Even if he does very little it won't be any less than we're likely to get out of the other two.

I haven't seen enough of Lennon to know how good he is but am surprised at Wright-Philips' exclusion from even the backup list. As for Hargreaves, I reckon half of our supporters team stand a chance of getting in if he can make it.

I just think Defoe was the 'obvious choice', and I wonder what he must be thinking, having been excluded in favour of an untested 17-year-old. Don't get me wrong, I hope Walcott turns out to be an inspired choice. I'm not the biggest Jermaine Defoe fan either - I think he can be a bit too lazy at times. But then I'm not a huge Peter Crouch fan either!

Somehow I don't think we will have a harmonious home for the next week or so and a stressful weekend to look forward to. Ian and I will no doubt remain civil but Tom and Becca could go for full scale warfare, although that might stop him arguing with Scarlett for a few days.

going back to the spurs thing... my father's law firm has been asked to 'investigate' the hotel in which the players stayed... so if i hear anything i'll let you all know...although i hear today on the news that actually one of th team already had a bug and may have simply passed it on to everyone else...
