The HFC line ups are correct - I may have got one or two of the ESL line up wrong.

The season began with a defeat in the rain, 51 matches ago. There were a few changes for the final match of the season, with Glen Golby taking over as manager to host the ESL Select. Urchins fell behind in the fifth minute when STEVE PORTWAY created space for himself to glide the ball home from a well flighted cross, but only three minutes later Hornchurch drew level, thanks to a good build up starting from Tony Vincent out to Tiffin and ending when AINSLEY CASPER ghosted in behind the defence to lob the ball over O’Neill.

With Rhys Madden blotting out any threat on the right – in fact he was everywhere – the ESL were forced back onto defence, and in the 13th minute they conceded a penalty, hotly disputed but a penalty none the less. Up stepped JOHN HICKMAN to score his first goal for the Urchins with a thunderous drive.

Mensah placed an excellent pass in front of Pamplin, playing his final game before retiring, and Asa slipped the ball ahead of Casper, who was close to scoring his second of the match, the ball skimming the post. The ESL came back strongly and levelled when NATHAN COLLINS moved in from the left to drive the ball past Hickman.

So many players had wanted to appear in this match that both managers made wholesale changes at half time, though Urchins were hit by the late withdrawal of Danny Cowley who had to take a school party to Twickenham. However Nicky Cowley came on and his first touch saw him get in a shot which was well saved, whilst Burbridge and Drake both went close. ESL took the lead when SHAUN THOMAS rose well to power a header past Collier, following a good run and cross from the left, but Urchins were back on level terms when BILLY HOLLAND slotted home a cross from the right with a neatly placed header.

ESL went in front in controversial circumstances as SHAUN THOMAS appeared to be offside when he ran through to score, but Urchins came back in force, with Burbridge hitting a shot wide, Nicky Cowley running through and then shooting narrowly wide, and Billy Drake setting up Burbridge whose shot was well saved. It was then that the visiting manager produced his master stroke. With Urchins pressing strongly for the equaliser, he played his final substitute of the match, and on came Rob Small, Burnham’s number one. Small took just seconds to settle in, but was shoulder charged off the ball by King when he broke clear. Then with four minutes left, it was Small again, rushing through the middle with the ball, and Collier had to race out of goal to intercept, the resulting collision seeing Small rise high into the air and crash to the ground, the referee awarding a penalty. Up stepped ROB SMALL to hammer the ball hard into the net for the final goal of the match. And so the season ended, just as it had started, with a defeat in the rain. In between, the Urchins had set record after record – a record number of points, the most clean sheets, highest attendance at every away ground, unbeaten in 2006, unbeaten away from home since the first match of the season, won the treble, and won countless new friends in the ESL. At the conclusion of the match it was announced that Glen Golby was sacked as manager.

And so onto the awards -

Player of the match – Asa Pamplin

Goal of the season – Rikki Burbridge against London APSA, with Matt Frew’s classic receiving honourable mention.

Golden Boot – Billy Holland

Clubman of the year – Terry Fisher – and thoroughly deserved

Captain’s choice – Glen Golby (as a player, not as a manager)

Young player of the year – Billy Drake

Player of the year – who else but Danny Cowley.

With apologies to Kaiser Jnr - I left him out of the report - he came on after 62 minutes in place of Steve Portway. The score was 2 each at that time, and his impact on the match was absolutely amazing - his incredible left foot did it all, and in no time at all the ESL were in front, and it was his pass, made ten passes before the ball reached Rob Small, which directly led to Small's immaculate run which led to the penalty.

I also neglected to mention his immaculate hairstile, his amazingly accurate 50 yard pass to Rob Small, and the fact that he should have been made player of the match.

Kaiser - is this enough, or have I got to add a bit more?
