Canvey Island to start all over

Got to have massive sympathy for their fans. They must be gutted. Word is that ultimately this might give HENDON a reprieve. Not sure if thats true though. Ryman one for Canvey possible.Crying shame for the fans.Good luck to Canvey in the future. We should know full well what its like to drop out of the top flight, for whatever the reason.

There must have been lots of hard work done to get them there but now it seems to have all been in vain.

Nationwide Conference club Canvey Island look set to confirm their resignation from the Conference following a club meeting on Thursday.

Manager and financial backer Jeff King revealed in April that he would be withdraw his investment in the club and reserve team coach John Batch has now been appointed as manager.

If Canvey Island do eventually decide to resign from the Conference, they have to confirm the situation by 13 May.

"Dreams of staying in the Conference have to be forgotten about," supporters liaison officer Glenn Eckitt told BBC Essex.

"The majority of next season's team will be made up of our title-winning reserve side. It would be unfair to go into a league where we can't compete."

If Canvey do withdraw from the Conference, then Tamworth, who finished second-bottom in the Conference, will stay in the Nationwide conference.

"We now have to apply to the FA and our preferred route would be step eight which is the Southern League East or Ryman Division One," Eckitt said.

"That's what we'd like but obviously it's down to the FA.

"If we could get into the Southern League East that would bring back derbies with Aveley, Hornchurch and other Essex clubs but I have to stress it isn't our decision."

I agree that this is sad story but with all respect, I do not think they should really be allowed to jump straight to Step4? IMO they should drop out of the conference, and play in Ryman Premier, or fold- therefore starting from the Essex Senior League.

They may not have the money to play in the Ryman prem as they will have re-sign players, pay compensation for the players that leave and pay wages. I think them starting from step 4 is the best way for them as i think they would become more successful from it, rather then dropping to Ryman Premier and struggling financialy. Good things come to those who wait.

I hope so. I think we have Bertie to thank for recommending Danny Hockton. And therefore getting Trotty who has become our manager. So we have a lot to thank Bertie for and hopefully he can have a storming season next year <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/smile.gif" alt="" />
