"Jounalisum"! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/shocked.gif" alt="" /> Even by your standards, Chris, that's a shocker! You weren't involved in writing the election leaflet for the IBR were you?! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/tongue.gif" alt="" /> <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

It would appear that paper will print anything if you are

1) Leader of the Council

2) Challenge the Editor to print your letter

While my letter was obviously written in anger I get the feeling we may be on the end of some comeback as a result. Interesting to see who bites first. Can't believe the editor printed the Slough Grammar bit!

That's a cop out on their part. Sometimes, as they will know full well, it's often not about the story you print but the spin you put on it. The spin they put on that story was very much detrimental towards the club and its supporters and they knew that. Furthermore, the fact that it referred to alleged incidents more than a year ago means they have allowed themselves to be used for Stokes' own political purposes. I still maintain it was very poor reporting.

We also shouldn't forget a typical solid effort from John Tebbit in the letter section too, although I must confess I fell asleep after the third paragraph <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />

They also denied having run the story before. Anybody know of anybody who cuts out and retains articles relating to STFC as I would certainly like to challenge that!

Arn't copies of local papers kept at Slough Library?

They haven't run the story before?? If they are right, isn't that tantamount to admitting that either they missed it a year ago, which would be embarrassing for them from a journalistic perspective, or that they didn't feel it sufficently news worthy at that time. If that's the case, why is it suddenly news worthy now? Donkey's!

At the very least they printed a letter from Cllr MacIsaac make allegations against us. If memory serves me correctly he wrote that letter after initial mumblings were made by Stokes about being forced to leave his home, because the story of him being 'forced' out of his home for 3 days of whatever haas certainly been in the press before

Oh look what I have found!

Rebels could soon be extinct Jul 22 2004

By Charles Watts

SLOUGH Town Football Club could be extinct within days if the council leader cannot persuade its former benefactor to retake the reins.

The Express understands that an e-mail has been sent to both Slough Borough Council leader, Richard Stokes (Lib: Haymill), and former Slough Town chairman Martyn Deaner, by Labour leader Rob Anderson (Lab: Farnham) urging them to attend a crunch meeting to discuss the situation.

The make-or-break talks have been called following club chairman Mr Deaner's decision to resign earlier this month - due to remarks made by the council's new leader.

After his group's election victory, Richard Stokes, made it clear that the proposed plans for a football stadium, along with money generating schemes such as a hotel on Britwell's Kennedy Park, would not go-ahead.

Mr Deaner's resignation has left Slough Town without a major benefactor and facing a cash crisis just weeks before the start of the new Ry,man League season.

Now the Rebels, who are currently playing their football at Windsor's Stag Meadow, face the real threat of extinction unless an agreement can be reached.

Mr Stokes said: "I've always been willing to meet him (Mr Deaner) - in fact I'm sorry that I've not met him yet. I was disappointed he resigned over what I think was a bit of a misunderstanding."

He added that he had never ruled out a community football stadium on the Britwell for between 1,500 and 3,000 people, but what he did not want was a 6,000 seater stadium with hotels and other facilities that could not be used by the estate.

The leader of Slough's Labour Party, who had helped start the feasibility study on the possible Britwell stadium, has been heavily involved in setting up the meeting between cllr Stokes and Mr Deaner.

Mr Anderson said: "There will be a hell of a lot resting on this. I want to get them in a room and tie them to a desk with officers and say don't leave this room until you've made an informed decision."

Councillors debated the situation for over two-and-a-half hours at a meeting in the Town Hall on Tuesday night in front of a public gallery packed full of Rebels fans.

But they left disappointed however, feeling that nothing had been achieved. Chris Slisky, secretary of the Slough Supporters Trust, said: "I can't believe that nothing was decided. Unless Mr Deaner gets some sort of guarantee from this lot he will pull out for good. We've only got days left."

THREATENING CALLS

THE leader of Slough Borough Council has been receiving 'threatening' phone calls from furious Slough Town FC fans.

Richard Stokes, 81, told a meeting between councillors and the football club's supporters trust on Monday that the calls had been coming at all hours of the day.

He said: "Some calls were hostile, some were obscene and some were threatening."

The secretary of the supporters trust, Chris Slisky, said: "I would like to apologise for Slough Town fans calling you. If there are supporters making these calls, that is not the way the club likes to do things."

I have to say I was amazed that two of those paragraphs were published but it is bloody funny and really hammers home our point.
