Election Update

A fantastic performance by the Slough Town candidates tonight. Have just got back from the count and the important results are as follows:

Britwell - Chris Sliski 33 votes (5th place)

Cippenham Green - Dom Ashford 122 votes (4th place out of 5)

Haymill - Marcus Kirby 99 votes (4th)

Wexham Lea - Martin Blake 354 votes (pushed the Conservatives into last place beating them by almost 100 votes!!)

I couldn;t stay for the Langley St Mary's vote but even without it that's 608 votes overall with little effort in canvassing. There were about ten of us in Rebels shirts there tonight and we were very visible and prompting a lot of discussions.

Without doubt this campaign has been a success. Well done to all. I'm now off to my bed! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/sleeping.gif" alt="" />

Well done to all those who stood in the elections and everybody who helped with the leaflets. If nothing else this will show those who oppose us in the Council that we mean business and should not be taken lightly.

I've taken a look at the results and it really was an eye opener, helluva lot more votes there than I expected.

I was just happy to see the name of Slough Town FC plastered everywhere and getting us noticed, so this is just fantastic.

An Olympic well done to everyone concerned!

Well done to all involved. I'm still not keen on the idea, but those involved have done a good job. Let's make sure though that we continue this recent publicity over the summer and not let this drop like we normally do.

What a great night for Slough Town Supporters Trust..pulling in nearly 800 votes / with 5 candidates ...We have lots of work still to do ! but our main aim was to get the community stadium issue back onto the agenda and Cllr Hewitt has already called for a meeting with us ! and wants to move forward...(the exact responce we wanted)

I am well aware we have lots to do and with everyone's help lets move forward..as we stated we want to work together with all parties and acheive our goal to get out Team home !

This was a crowning moment for out organisation and together we can also build on and if the poilticans fail to listern to us, we will be back next time and we will campaign even harder where they will sit up and get worried !

The biggest THANK YOU Possible to those who worked hard and those who stood and to all those who voted for their town !

I am the proudest man in Slough this morning !

Chris Sliski - Secretary STST

The election group will meet next week to have a wash up meeting and we hope to see all the trust members at the AGM in july...

What this space for further information...

Up the REBELS !

It was a real team efforts this time...The sub committee were fantastic and we have all learnt a lot from this experience and can only bode well for our future campaigns...

Cllr Hewitt wants to go forward and thats great for now..but we will ensure we need action not words...It is imperrative we get moving forward with some real action..

lets hope that many of the independants and liberals/conservatives who changed their leaflet to inc help the football club now work together and acheive our mandate..to get a community stadium for our town and to bring Slough Town FC home, under a scheme that the club will be able to earn money to ensure the club is funded too so that we don't come with our begging bowl..we don't want this so they must ensure some other projects are included to sustain the football club at a resonable level.

Gary, what exactly are your concerns?

The fact we never wanted to be used as a political football, so we enter the political arena. Also, I feel we're being used as a Labour plaything in an attempt to assist them to get back into power.

Next year may be different though as there will be more time to prepare where things can be done with the ambition of actually getting people elected rather than just trying to split the vote.

I'd be amazed if the trust ever got anyone elected - it really would have to be a lot of hard work targetting just one ward, not just leafleting but door knocking and i know from experience this is a hell of a lot to take on.

I know Brentford supporters did it, but that was in the area they play in and i don't know what the turn out was.

I think standing achieved exactly what it set out too, getting the politicians to take note, letting people in the borough know the problems the club faced (helped by an excellent, clear leaflet).

It might also be worth thinking about registering as a political party, because then (i think)you could have that name on the ballot paper rather than just Independant.

But again, well done everyone, a brillant effort.

To be honest - I am amazed at how well we did and I am delighted - to collect seven hundred and fifty votes off the back of one leaflet drop and some press coverage is amazing. We beat the Tories with their national campaign into fourth place in Wexham. I agree that if we do this again we should register as a party so we can have more than independent on the ballot.

I think the campaign has achieved exactly what it set out to - the people of Slough know more about our aim and plight thanks to the press coverage and the leaflet and we have rattled the councillors. Many produced follow up leaflets with refence to the club and the ten of us at the count last night were approached by councillors from all parties who wanted to talk about the club. That is hugely positive because the votes had been cast and there was nothing to gain from sweet talking us. Let's see what happens now and take it from there.

In addition I think we should do a secondary leaflet drop later in the summer once the new fixture list is announced. We can then inform the people of what's happening, where we play and when and encourage them to show support to the club and its plight by actually coming through the turnstiles. So long as we have willing volunteers to go delivering we now know from experience it has some effect.
