Have a listen to it Alex & see if you wish to revise your tip. Help from neighboring countries or no help. They will certainly need it. Now dosent that now make it a certainty to win or what?

1. Greece (excellent live performer and a handy draw for the final)

2. Romania (Eastern votes will help and could nick it with a good performance)

3. Sweden

4. Bosnia Herzegovina (Eastern votes help this one and probably the best ballad)

Outsiders worth a shot

Croatia (28/1 Corals, Hills) Excellent draw fifth from last & Eastern votes could get this into the top 4 on the back of a good performance.

Probably mid table for the UK although it is our best entry since 1998.

Given that Eurovision is blatantly political, expect the UK to languish at the bottom. Lets not forget, we're still in Iraq! You never know, the French might give us a vote or two, since we caved in over the EU Budget...

Balkan countries (Croatia, Romania, Bulgaria etc) always vote for each other, similarly Greece and Turkey giving ten to Cyprus (brown-nosing as they control half the island each), my bets are on the Eastern European states. Switzerland isnt a bad bet though, seeing as its neutral on everything.

Eurovision is worth watching for two things, the German entry and Terry Wogans commentary...brilliant entertainment!

Yes indeed semi-finals to go through yet. A whittling down to 24 participants for the final. Am going to hold on to my dosh just a little longer just in case some of my fancies dont run(so to speak). Some interesting facts below:

Facts & Figures

Eurovision Song Contest 2006 – Athens, Greece

In brief:

37 countries are taking part in the 51st Eurovision Song Contest.

38 countries will participate in the televoting for the Final (all 37 participating countries plus Serbia & Montenegro which withdrew).

There will be 80 rehearsals for the artists.

At least 76 press conferences will be given.

The stage is a 13-metre-wide circle.

250 square metres of high definition LED will be controlled by a network of 16 media servers.

200 metres of truss are used to hang 280 chain hoists for the lighting system.

2,300 LED strip lights, 12 follow spots and 500 movable heads lighten up the venue.

180 kilometres of cable are needed for the lighting system.

12 actors, 70 dancers and 100 volunteers will take part in this year's interval act.

37 postcards – each 35 seconds long – will be produced.

20 cameras will capture the pictures that we will see on TV.

For the first time in Eurovision history, a spider cam will be used.

The venue has a 500 square metre Press Centre and a 100 square metre room for press conferences.

2,000 journalists are accreditated to cover the event. 1,600 of them are working for foreign media.

The Contest...

The Final of the 51st Eurovision Song Contest will be held on Saturday 20 May at the Olympic Indoor Arena, Athens. The Eurovision Semi Final will be held on Thursday 18 May.

More than 200 artists (singers, dancers, backing vocals) will be involved in the contest.

The rehearsals start on 11 May, involving the countries taking part in the Semi Final.

The event, hosted by Greek national broadcaster ERT, comprises two live televised contests in one week – a Semi Final and a Final – which will be broadcast live from Athens over the Eurovision network.

The 23 countries registered to compete in the Semi Final are: Albania (RTVSH); Andorra (RTVA); Armenia (AMPTV); Belarus (BTRC); Belgium (VRT/RTBF); Bosnia & Herzegovina (PBSBIH / BHT) Bulgaria (BNT); Cyprus (CyBC); Estonia (ETV); Finland (YLE); FYR Macedonia (MKRTV); Iceland (RUV); Ireland (RTE); Lithuania (LRT); Monaco (TMC); Netherlands (NPB); Poland (PRT/TVP); Portugal (RTP); Russia (C1R/RTR); Slovenia (RTVSLO); Sweden (SVT); Turkey (TRT); Ukraine (NTU).

According to the format, 14 countries have already secured their place in the Final, including last year's winner (Greece), the four largest countries in the contest (France, Germany, Spain and the UK), as well the nine top scoring countries from the previous year’s competition. These countries are: Croatia (HRT); Denmark (DR); Israel (IBA); Latvia (LTV); Malta (MT/PBS); Moldova (TRM); Norway (NRK); Romania (TVR); Switzerland (SRG SSR idée suisse).

The Venue...

The Olympic Indoor Arena is one of the biggest indoor sport and concert venues in Athens. It consists of six levels with a seating capacity of 18,500 people, including 2,000 fold-up seats and 300 seats for the media.

Backstage, there are 39 dressing rooms installed for the artists and hosts.

The stage consists of a main circle with movable segments so that it can vary in shape from song to song. The main stage is surrounded by elements on which videos can be broadcast.

A lot different to my selections GW. You will more than likely end up victorious with your selections than I as every year the crap songs come through & win l.o.l. & yes I know its because of local support from neighbouring countries.

Thats all part of the fun though I think!

Yes it maybe with the voting James but we dont really have to go there do we? It is about the songs first & foremost. If you ignore the voting politics dosent come into it.Therefore watch the show by all means but turn off when you've heard the songs.Enjoy the music or hate it but dont concern yourself with the voting & politics of the show.See its NOT all about the politics of it after all! Anyway this thread is supposed to be lighthearted! How about we keep it that way.

What you should do is to start a "political" thread up.Then when something political needs to be mentioned it can go on there.Ask to have it made "sticky".Even if nothing goes on there for a while at least its there solely for just that.

Just a suggestion! Now loosen up a bit please!

I dare you to pick me the winner, without giving me a political reason for it being your pick. The Swiss ENTRY was the nearest you came to one. Give me it again WITHOUT the political bit.How about if its just a good song. Reason enough I think!
