Playing budgets 2006/7

Recommended Posts

Some food for thought on Confguide, across the board drop in attendances with impact on playing budgets, probably none more so than Weymouth.

Although they have had huge gates of late, sufficient to susptain the alledged wages of Garry Hill and his team, if they drop to 2000 ish, they could find themselves in difficulty.

From Clough the Magic Dragon website(Burton): BREWERS REVEAL RECORD LOSSES (24/04/06)

Burton Albion have recorded a record loss of £293,000 for last season(2004/2005), with the construction of the Pirelli Stadium and a huge increase in the club wage bill responsible for the deficit.

The wage bill increased by more than £2000 per week, meaning the £201,000 raised in gate receipts covered merely one third of the overall cost of salaries. The total wage bill was £630,000 during the final season at Eton Park. With the arrival of players such as Daryl Clare this season, who Andy Garner described as "being on a big wage", the windfall of FA Cup cash cannot have come at a better time.

They very lucky they had their cup run this year, which not only would have offset their losses from last year, paid off a bit of their new ground, but should help with wages next season as well.

Still it is a bit shorted of any team to have to rely on cup runs to pay the bills.
