Local elections & the effect on Enfield Town FC

Recommended Posts

In all seriousness and without wanting to start political divisions within the ETFC family, which political party offers the best future and support for Enfield Town Football Club?

I’m a new arrival in Enfield so I only have a basic understanding of the of the Southbury Road story. Did the Labour local council that were in power at the time cause some of the problems for the E’s? Was Lazerou solely to blame? I would like to give Joan and her gang my vote. This will still be a good vote for ETFC won’t it? I’m sure I’ve heard that Joan Ryan is a fan and supporter.

At the time of the Southbury Road shambles it was down to Mr L****** AND the Labour Council or perhaps certain Labour Councillors more to the point.

Thing have changed, but at the end of the day, unlike other Local Authorities who have supported their local teams and assisted in the land and building of new stadia, Enfield have never been "sport minded" or supportive in any way.

Who knows ?

Politics is a funny old game !

I know that the tory council have been working with our board on finding a home for the club. Labour have no interest at all. If you are going to use your vote to support ETFC then vote conservative. At least you are voting on a local issue as well. The majority of voters don't understand the difference between local and national politics.

Well put Happy,

Labour at No 10 ain't going to be interested.

Local support will only come from the Cons group, assuming there will be any support.

Once voted in Councillors ( any ) tend to deal with issues they want rather than those that they were voted in to deal with.

This is my view and not a Political view on behalf of the Towners.

I know things take time, but would the Conservative group have been better placed tomorrow had they sorted out a deal with ETFC before the footballing supporters had the chance to vote?

You never know, minds may change and ETFC end up with nothing, especially with a bigger club looking to make some headway in the borough!

I wouldn't worry about it. If any party has a written commitment in their manifesto, they may or may not honour it if elected, depending on political expediency (and finances - much the same thing) at the time.

If it is not a written manifesto commitment, if elected that party may or may not honour any verbal, written or implied support for a particular issue, depending on political expediency (and finances... etc).

I work 300 yards from Harlow's new ground and it looks very impressive ,Dartfords council has at last made up for the whatling street fiasco, even if it did take 11 years, some councils care about their clubs , Others dont.

On the issue of football fans and the local council elections tomorrow, today's Torygraph sports section contained an article about the activities of some Barnet supporters who have provided some analysis of which wards the Conservatives are vulnerable in, in an attempt to get people who are more 'football-friendly' elected. I also know that in Slough, there are four ST supporters actually standing in the elections.

it doesn't matter what party you vote for they are all the same at the end of the day.

they say one thing to get your votes and then when in they dont back it up.

they talk the talk but cant walk the walk.

ps i like the idea of the slough supporters to stand for election, maybe some etfc fans with a bit of political know how (that counts me out) should stand for election, maybe that is the only way we will ever get our own stadium in the borough. only time will tell!

Who said Labour or Lib Dems are more 'football friendly'? They certainly havn't been in Enfield.

I think Barnet is a Tory council, so the fans went for the wards were they were the most vulnerable. They didn't want to get a different party into power, just raise awareness for their cause.
