Manager for the day

Recommended Posts

I had a great afternoon on Monday managing the dream team, that included some past and present players.

It was fairly difficult getting them to warm up, but with some prompting from Jacko on the right approach, the lads wandered out and did a few stretches and gentle running. Well it is the end of the season.

I had some help with the formation, deciding not to go for the diamond shape more a do as you want shape. With a few players nursing injuries we played it cool, but were somewhat disappointed when a couple of key players i.e. Scott Tarr and Ade Pennock were hi-jacked by the opposition.

We had a team talk prior to the start and Skins walked onto the pitch through a guard of honour provided by both teams . Although it was difficult to see who was Skins and who were the mascots.

Skins was presented with a framed shirt prior to the start of the game.

All did not go well as we went two down but I was not concerned and with some helpful hints from my bench we decided to wait before showing our hand. Half time came and the players stocked up on fruit and water. I had the traditional cup of tea. I was also moaned at for not swearing at the teams as is usual with all Managers from every team talk. As Luke was carrying an injury it was decided to let him start and then Jacko would replace him and as Nicky Burton had a slight strain I think from all the hair gell, Jay went back on with Macca playing in the back four.

Skins had a roving role and I thought he was very similar to Joe Cole!!

The score was soon two all and we started to get excited, Jacko went on and atmosphere was building. We were then awarded a penalty and our skipper for the day did his best to miss, but a very nice ref ( not words I have uttered before this season)allowed us to take it again and victory was sealed.

It was a lovely day and I cannot remember many managers getting a kiss from all their players at the end of a match.

I was also disappointed with the crowd, but those that came enjoyed the match and the drink in the bar afterwards. Many of the Wimbledon lads came in for a drink, and were very sporting in defeat!

A lovely day, Skins and his family really enjoyed it.

Thanks everyone. One game one win., that will do for me.
