The Clear Outs Have Started

Recommended Posts

My real concern is that clubs are supposed to get rid of the dead wood in the end of season clearout, in order to bring better players in, not lose some of your better, most creative players like Jay, Bowry and Rawle.

Quite who LD expects to bring in who are better than those he is letting go, I simply have no idea?

Duncan Ferguson's been let go... maybe he could come in for Rawle. Mind you, that would leave us with two rather injury-prone strikers! <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/grin.gif" alt="" />

ON a serious note, some of the players Westley has let go aren't bad - Perpetuini used to play for Gillingham and Gregory and Hocking looked promising when I saw them (all defenders), while Canvey's troubles may see a few of their players become available.

I would expect more players to go first before any new ones arrive. I cannot believe LD will be given the same budget or better than last year, due to the income shortfalls and cash flow problems already mentioned on previous threads.

LD will start off with his contracted 4 (Smith & Smith, Moore and MacDonald) then sign what he can afford..

I'm not holding my breath for another Charlie though, more likely to get a team of keen 18 year olds, fresh from the Kent league or Rymans Div 1.

They may be boys, but they will be honest!!!

Last season we singed a lot of new players, the season started off really well, we were flying in the league, and a lot of the fans had great expectations.

Then one by one the players left, sacked,or just plain disappeared.

That left us with virtually the squad that we have just released from there contracts.

Whom i seem to remember most of you moaned about every week saying how poor they were.

Now they are going most seem to be complaining about that to.

So my question is, are the management correct removing all the so called dead wood and starting afresh, or should we have carried on in the same vain as the end of the season, with the squad we had.

Spiraling down the leaguewith every game. Interted in your thoughts !!!!!!!!!!!!

Is the management correct in making so many changes in one go ?

As an outside observation I can't help but think that Gravesend & Northfleet would've been better off to remain part-time.

You are/would be potentially one of the highest placed part-time Clubs in the country and there are some quality part-time footballers going around that would probably jump at the chance to continue to play Conference football - You'd have your pick of the best of the bunch.

For example, Canvey signed (and have now released) Dominic Sterling from Aldershot because he didn't want to go full-time. Allan Tait, Crawley's top scorer last season was signed for 2k because he didn't want to go full-time. Jon Keeling, one of the best wingers despite his height cannot go part-time cause of his job, along with Canvey's long standing servant Steve Ward, (who lives near and works in Gravesend) for the same reason.

Being part-time you could've acted now and got in there before Chelmsford take a reported 5 ex-Gulls with them. Bearing in mind that as a part-time outfit we did also finish a couple of places above you in the League I thought you could've been the first to attempt to snap 'em up. Money shouldn't be an option, because most part-time players just want to play at the highest possible level rather than have to worry about making a career out of it.

Like I said, just an outsiders neutral view. Sorry for any controversy.

Yep - not much controversy at all there.

Eh? The only players of those who have just been released who received much criticism were Drury and Rawle, and even much of this was misguided in my view.

Yes they are - the results for the last god-knows how many months tell the sorry tale.

Clearly, after the slide in 2006, changes had to be made. It's just a question of which ones, though.
