Too Many Cups?

Recommended Posts

Just a thought, but over the last month the boys have looked knackered. did we enter too many competitions this season, and run out of steam because of it? I know cups bring in revenue, so maybe that is answering my own question, but there have been a lot of games this season, maybe too many?

i dont think its too many cups, more the league.

in the esl we played 28 league games where as this season we have had 43 incl todays playoff. fitness was not one of our strong points, faster paced game led to tierdness in the last few minutes of games and thus conceading goals in this time and with the extra league games we just ran out of steam in the final month of the season.

All in all its been a massive achievment from the lads and all credit too them, just unfortunate that we have nothing to show for it.

Interesting theory but we don't play in a lot of midweek cup competitions that other clubs do.

We do the
FA Cup
FA Trophy
League Cup
Middlesex Senior Cup
Middlesex Charity Cup

No reserve competitions, no eastern floodlight etc.

I can see both sides here. We in fact played two rounds in the FA Cup, two in the Trophy, one in the league cup, 3 or 4 in both Middx Senior and Charity Cups. So that was an extra 10 or twelve matches then plus 42 league games that brings it to 52 or 54.

Perhaps fitness has something to do with it. It is one thing being fit and another being match fit. <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/chat.gif" alt="" />

Since Roy Austin was brought on board, the lads' fitness has improved dramatically. To my mind, we got too complacent a few weeks ago and when things started going against us we lost confidence big time.
