.....and that is exactly what we got after 43 league games....NOTHING!

In the last month we have looked very jaded, in fact since the 90th minute at Rothwell we have not looked organised or capable of getting a win, we have rode our luck & more this season & only played in patches, today was a perfect example in the 1st half we played some good football then the 2nd half we were woeful, story of the season.

Also why today when Chopper was struggling did we then substitute Paul Campbell? if according to JC he in the absence of a sub keeper on the bench is our cover????

Lots of changes needed if we are to progress up the pyramid, starting with the management!

I think Jim deserves next season in full, but we must gain promotion (and more importantly play a lot better than we have done this season).

What with all the missed goalscoring chances we have wasted this year, and the amount of times we have let goals in during the last few minutes of Halfs. Its amazing we have been right up near the top of the league all season. We should have won this league easily. It was there for the taking.Thats the most dissapointing aspect of our failure to gain promotion.

I still cant see us going anywhere without a proper reserve team. We had Lee Smith, Steve Baldwin and the concusion king Kojo Ofori there watching. Their hearts are still with us but need to play regular. We needed a bench reserve keeper, Chopper was concussed and not in any fit state to continue but as a loyal towner he had to and there was only one possible outcome after that shortfall.

Full marks to Wivenhoe they came they saw the conquered.

Our first year without anything to show for it!

It shows the numbness the result has caused by the lack of posts. Once again the home game let us down. Brimmo' has to become a fortress if we are to gain promotion next season preferably as champions. When you you look at the league table our home form was more like that of a team in the middle part of the division. We also need to see off teams rather than hang on to a one goal advantage.

It's obvious we some changes in personnel like someone who can score 25 goals plus a season. Someone like either Gary Abbott, John Connell or someone in that mold. JC has going to have a lot of work to do during the close season including looking back at his tatics during this season. Maybe we need someone to go looking at our opponents to find where their strengths and weaknesses are. I know I do not come to games and rely on everone's posts here.

All I am trying to do is promote some comments for discussion.

You can send as many people as you like to look at teams but if the tactics are not good it is wasted.

I have been working abroad for nearly all of this season and got back in time to see just the last 2 home games (EFC 2 weeks ago and today's play-off against Wivenhoe).

I have "followed" ETFC's progress this year via the website and this forum only. That gives me a somewhat unique perspective on the season.

From what I have seen we weren't quite good enough to deserve promotion. But had any of us been offered third in the league at the start of the season, I suspect 90% would have jumped at it. That we aren't only shows that the gulf between step 5 and step 4 is not that large.

ETFC is very fortunate that it has a small bunch of extremely dedicated supporters. From what I hear, we have made just as much progress off the pitch as on it. Remember this club is about far more than just the first team.

On the pitch, we were one goalscoring striker short and maybe one midfield creator. Off the pitch, we need some kind of facility that benefits the club from bar takings and other social functions. Let's hope that happens at some point in tne next year or so.

Third in the league immediately after promotion is a fine achievement. Knowing it could - and should - have been even better, simply gives us more to look forward to next season.

I see absolutely no need to start doubting Jim Chandler's ability. I am sure he will make the changes to the squad that he knows are necessary, if we are to perform even better next year.

Steve Baldwin is a Hornchurch player, Lee Smith is injured & Kojo was shipped out on loan to Ilford.

But totally agree with you T.I.M, dont understand why Balders & Smudger were not in the squad more often, or why with about 8 games to go in a promotion push you ship out a talent like Kojo or why we let Maurice Byfield & Dean Greene go so easily without replacing them with players of a similar quality.

Wrote my end of season peace for the gazette last night.

Not to tell u exactly what I wrote but it goes along the lines of

We need a new striker.

We need to sort out goalkeeper situation

Players must be picked because they are the best not because they are the favourites of the coaches

Too much long ball game.

Tactics clearly wrong at home

Certainly agree with your comments.

I have been saying all season that we needed a stronger / bigger forward line.

Gnerally, the team is on the small side for this level of football and it wont be any easier next season.

Having achieved so much this season it will be hard to follow it up with another top 2 or 3 performance.

Home form MUST improve. 28 points dropped this time around cost us dearly.

Overall, Boys did well in first season at this level for a Club not yet 5 years old. It is just that expectations take over when you are so close to winning something.

Next season...New start.

I agree with Gazza's point earlier. We need to look at the management. That does not mean that I am advocating Jim being removed. However, attitudes must change. From what I have seen and heard there is a total lack of motivational management at ETFC. If you have a big squad then players will get dropped. However, from talking to people it appears that when a player is dropped, no one explains the reasons why to that player and on occassions they have simply been blanked. Maybe some management training might be in order. We had a group of players that should have won, what was a pretty poor league, a few weeks ago. However, good players were dropped for no good reason. Look at the left side. Woodward and Baldwin combine really well on the left flank. They can both attack and can both defend so cover for each other. The two matches this system was played was Wakering away (5-0) and Potters Bar at home.

We still have the players (apart from a good frontman) to do well next season but unless the tactics and motivation are there, I predict a play off spot at best.

The motivational methods do see odd from the bench. You have Jim who just sits there at the back of the dugout with his arms folded and never says a word, and then you've get Peter who flies out of the dugout three or four times a match shouting expletives, sometimes at the officials ,sometimes at our players.

Don't get me wrong.Parts of Jim management are superb. His record speaks for itself, and i'm sure he has learned many valuable lessons throughout his long career. He does have his faults (all managers do) but i believe he deserves the whole of next season to prove it.Every time in the past that we have doubted him,he has managed to turn things around. My biggest concerns, apart from the occassional tactical anomaly,is the amount of quality players were have lost through 'attitude/faling out of favour with the management'.

All managers are different or there would be no point in replacing them.

Jim has his way of working and I can't see the problem with that, jumping up and down constantly shouting doesn't get the results it's the preperation before thats needed.

I would like to get back to other teams fearing us and not us fearing them!!
