Who to keep?

Who would you keep for next season bearing in mind that RT, BB, DH, LY, OS & HD are under contract too ?

Keepers. Mitten, Egan

Defenders. Trott, Deen, Oates, Allman

Midfielders. Protheroe, Keister, Knight, Sesay, Yiga, Brayley

Strikers. Hockton

Already it is clear that the players are in better shape and are trimmer under the new regime. Think Yiga is a central midfielder but will need to be nurtured. Sesay obviously has bags of potential as a winger but needs looking after. Brayley I would think is a natural left winger so maybe RT will have a tough decision to make on Spencer although he proved against Hendon that when in shape he is useful. The problem is with so many midfielders will there be any room in the budget to strengthen that area? Maybe some tough decisions to ship one or two out if we need to. Glad thats not my responsibility but have every faith that we will have a great squad for next season.

So contracted for next season are:

Robin Trott - Defender

Haseem Deen - Midfield

Lawrence Yiga - Midfield

Bertie Brayley - Winger/Striker

Osman Sesay - Midfield/Winger/Striker

Danny Hockton - Striker

Will JK play next season or is his contract also finished now? Or will he retire & continue as a coach for us?

Would BE continue to stay as a bench warmer, I doubt it. I think he may well retire.

Can we sign LP? Also doubtful his skills will be sort after by higher clubs.

I think Mitten will re-sign for us, hopefully not on another one year contract.

Behcet i think would be unlikely to come here on a permanant deal, again I think his skills (if he becomes a free agent) will make him much sort after by higher clubs.

That will mean that RT will have to either find or get current players to re-sign.

Who ever comes here need to be signed for more than one year, we need to have a perminant solid teaam, not one that can change from month to month.

So the question is, who is going to be available for us to sign for next season & who do we think we can REALISTICALLY sign?

[color:"blue"] If we sign Protheroe & (unlike CK) play players in their proper positions, our midfield is Protheroe, Keister, Deen (or Gradley) & Brayley.

Where do you fit in Yiga & Sesay ?

Id be inclinde to use them as subs.

OS can play Midfield/Wing/Striker, yet he is young & rash, so use his eagerness & utility skill as a sub & stand in for rested/suspended/injured players.

The same for LY he can play Mifield/winger again a good sub or stand-in for rested/suspended/injured players. Both will get 1st team experience, which in time will bear fruit, but they cant be expected to be 1st regulars. As yet the skills are there but refineed by age & experience

Also is JK going to play next season?

[color:"blue"] Would prefer to sign Behcet than Mitten (cannot see CM completing a whole season injury free).

Would also say goodbye to Edwards (can't see him signing to spend a season on the bench), Allman, Kola, Yiga (where do we play him), Knight.

I'd retain Egan(bench only), Oates, Trott, Donovan, Protheroe, Keister, Deen, Gradley, Brayley, Hockton, Sesay (for his enthusiasm & for the last 20 minutes in a game) & Standen(who can also play almost anywhere).

Would like to see us re-sign Mo Takaloo ... he's local & knows where the back of the net is. Also he's no longer a slightly built teenager who easily gets knocked off the ball (as was the case when he was with us before).

I think i'm with Peter's retention list.

I think Donovan was starting to form a decent partnership with RT.

Not sure how we bring pace to the defence, but if RT and JD are solid enough, and defended well by midfield, with Hasim playing defensive midfield cutting out the through balls, maybe it will only be a couple of times we get exposed for pace

Tako ...NO! NO! NO! O.K in Kent league but struggles further up the pyramid. Leave him to thrive in his own way in his own class.

No going back to those days please. That would be an ALMIGHTY step backwards.

Donovan too risky! Standen...Say nothing Tone!No comment!

Gradley I understand may NOT be with us next season.Just a whisper I heard.

I have a feeling that Charlie Mitten was the first contracted player to sign for us and that it was a two year contract.

I personally think that he has been great this season and hope to see him in goal again for the 2006/7 season (at least).

I'm not that bothered about Gradley. He's done well the past 2 games but is only useful when fit which is not very often over the past 2 seasons. Keeping him probably depends on who would be willing to come in. He would certainly not be one of those must keep players. Have removed him from my initial list.

Mo Tako. I dont think he would fit in. Could be ok as a backup but then you would have to ask questions would he think he was too big to sit on the bench? I wouldnt want him in the squad for fear of that. He's not good enough to be a regular starter.

Standen yes to be resigned.

Why?

Well

1) He wants to continue to play for Margate.

2) He will always give you 110%.

3) He may not be in the team but an excellent sub to have to cover defence and midfield if and when required.

4) Regardless of what other people say he will become a good player for us.

In the right shape Standen is a good backup as you say Joseba. I think RT's regime suits him much better than the previous one. At Leyton he looked sharp when before it was clear there was something (fitness & sharpness) lacking not just in DS but in all the players.

A class above our league: Trott, Protheroe, Keister, Brayley, Hockton.

Good enough for promotion: Mitten (subject to fitness), Allman, Deen, Standen, Gradley.

Young and should improve with sub appearances: Kola, Sesay, Yiga.

Sorry but goodbye: Oates (never fully recovered from 2004 injury), Donovan, Knight, other fringe players. Assuming Edwards retiring.

Shopping list: GK, central defender, right sided defender, midfield, striker. Plus utility players to cover for injuries/suspensions.
