Bye then, 2005-06... it was rubbish.

So who do you think we'll retain in the close season? I have a feeling it won't be much better than:

Kerr

Gooding

Glozier

Hawkins

Ross Smith

James Smith

McKimm

Jacko

Charlie

Moore

Maybe Rawle

Maybe Johnson

I hope Slatter stays despite rumours, and that Saunders stays too. WOuldn't surprise me to see Drury leave, and McCarthy, Bowry and Skinner retire. Holloway won't be here. Fuller's not good enough, and if he's signed for next season, we're going in the wrong direction.

I'd like to think that we might do somehting along the lines of the following

Keepers:

Holloway - retained as first choice

Kerr - after today retained

Mott - properly registered as 3rd keeper in the squad

Defenders:

R & J Smith - already signed

P Hawkins - retained

Skinner - retained as P/T cover

Midfielders

Saunders, Mckimm, Slatter, Jacko, Bowry - retained

Drury retained poss F/T

Forwards

McDonald - signed

Rawle - unsure

Moore & Darvill - retained

That's my view, feel free to discuss etc.

Not sure if McKimm will be kept, he has been available but left out of some pretty weak line-ups of late other than that I reckon your list is not going to be a million miles out..

If we can get him I would definately keep Johnson and and we should try and keep Slatts.

We need to find some goals, some midfield quality and most of all some pace to improve that side and with no budget that won't be easy.

Ross was easily the best signing last summer and I should think that this years crop are more likely to come from Margate/Bromley/Dover/Dartford than Gillingham/QPR/Charlton.

From what CG was saying on Thursday night he is convinced Jacko is going to join Welling.

Wouldn't mind keeping Craig but its if he wants to stay. With westley at bromley on thursday he must have been watching Craig and Bradley and he cant have missed Danny after the goal he scored.

I also wonder if Liam has the contacts to get in players who are good enough to get us up the table. However he has got a tight amount of money to play with.

It will be intresting come the close season!

Well done from me to Luke as well. Now he can afford some hearty steaks at the clubs expense, buy himself a bullworker and put on a stone in upper body weight this summer.

Oh, and we shouldn't forget Brendan Cass, who scored plenty for Chatham Town.

Seriously, it is from this type of player that we need to be develping, as we clearly cannot afford another Macdonald.

The Kent scene has plenty of good, up and coming young players, hungry for the chance to impress at a higher level.

Let us give them a go.

This "networking" could pay dividends Jimmy. However, somehow I can't see LD wanting to let someone else take some of the credit for bringing new talent to the club. That task is down to him.

Regarding the hoped for retained lists posted, as several of the players mentioned are part-timers who are unlikely to be available when the full-timers train, regardless of how talented or well regarded they are, my understanding is that they will all be released. Why the manager can't be more flexible and let the full-timers train when these experienced part-timers are available does confuse me, but I guess an hour and three quarters drive back to Hampshire in the evening may have played its part in this decision.

In short out will go the seasoned semi-pros. In will come the very young, largely untested, players but who are ultimately affordable. It may work but, by heck, it is a huge gamble. But if it is what the club can afford who are we who aren't either willing or able to foot the bill to complain?

Indeed, but even that Manchester United team had its share of old heads amongst the youngsters.
