Today's team

Recommended Posts

Given the injury list, which could include Jay, Gooding, Bobby, Jukebox, Watkins, Jacko, Rawle, MacDonald, Craig, uncle Tom Cobley and all,

I would think the team today will something like:

Kerr

Skinner R Smith Hawkins Glozier

Slatter McKimm Johnson Fuller

J Smith Moore

Subs

Mott Darville + 3

Crikey, even the usually captain of optimism JC has gone for a defeat

"Lose

No Fleet goals

No scorer

1 Fleet card

Attendance: 821"

I am hoping above hope there is a little bit of fire in the belly today, if for no other reason than the players who know or suspect they are being released can stick a finger in the air at Liam.

That IS a veiled LD bash.

Eh? That's been my stock prediction for the last couple of weeks.

It wasn't great - but few expected it to be. Surprisingly good atmosphere from the noisy drum gang - even the crowd at 900+ was better than most predicted.

All too familiar tactics, though, with far too many long balls slung up hopefully for Jamie and Moore to vailantly chase. Neither are clearly up to standard yet, but time may improve things.

We looked much too lightweight to make much of a fight of it. Whith the best will in the world, the likes of Skins, Fuller, Slatter, and Moore are never going to outjump or out-muscle many of the opposition.

It was nice to see our part timers make what could be their swansong today, if rumours that abound are to be believed, with Skins, Macca, Jay and Jacko putting in solid appearances.

One last mention to Aaron - 3 superb saves, clearly hampered by a heavily strapped leg, and little he could do with the goal, it seemed rto bend around and over the wall, into the top corner.

Top saves from Aaron, Jay was looking more like his old self winning important balls all over the pitch and no surprise that the biggest cheer of the day was when Jacko came on.

I normally get withdrawal symptoms at the end of the season but quite frankly I'm glad to see the end of this one.

Skins testimonial should be good on Monday, I am looking forward to seeing some of the old players again particularly Rob Haworth and Big Frank Duku.

Apparently the reference to only having full-time players next season does not in theory exclude part-timers, provided that they can train at the same time as the full-timers, ie daytime rather than evenings. Seems unlikely that many ( even any ) of our current squad can match this requirement. More of a bar may be the wages they are at present paid. Also apparently it is not the case that a part-timer is necessarily cheaper than a full-timer and may, due to experience etc, be more expensive to the club than a less experinced full-timer. Therefore, expect to see a younger squad next season. Hopefully the phrase " men against boys " will not feature more than, say, 10 to 15 times in match reports in the local press/radio during next season. I wonder where we will be able to unearth these gems from?

Did you see our attendance compared to the others in the conference? We had about 900 and Crawley vs Tamworth got over 1500...Lots of people don't want to go to see them play because they don't agree with Daish, so maybe if we get a new chairman, a new manager will come along too.
