Today's Slough Express

Hi all...I left the pot to cool down, and I have spoken with the chairman of the Trust Mike Lightfoot, we will all meet tomorrow and also we need to see if we can make a formal complaint, especially in the light of this story being run before either in The Express or The observer.

I have already spoken with the editor of the Express article, who for what ever reason though he had a scoop ! Well i did inform him that story had been run before ,he commented as Cllr Hewitt had received many letters in reply to his article the previuos week he felt it fair that Cllr Stokes had a right to reply..I explain we never had a go at anyone just putting the incorrect facts that Mr Hewitt had completly got wrong to right !

I also reminded the journalist that we had backed Mr Stokes to take action and recorded this in the paper the following week ! We insisted that he reported this to the police! Nothing was ever done by Mr Stokes even though we urged him to do so ! ?????? But today he brings up the same thing he said 18 months ago and again 12 months ago ..stateing it was a small majority of Slough Supporters doing this..Mr Stokes please prove these are Slough Town Supporters..it could have been anyone ! Again I repeat Mr Stokes please report this to the Police ! We don't want our good name being used for a political stunt, please catch those persons who ever they are from doing this then and again in the future!

Again I repeat - I was the one who asked Cheryl Coppell to arrange a meeting ..not the other way round ! Mr Stokes has quite clearly got his information the wrong way round Again! and I am still waiting for that meeting invitation from you ! (FACT) Also please can you tell us when the football club asked for 20 million and demanded a peice of Land...everyone who was at the public meeting, can't remember that ever being said ! or at subsequent meetings (fact)

I was very upset that the Express never got in contact with us to ask us our opinion or our views that could have given a balanced piece to this story ! but the journalist said we had been given enough coverage and that he did not think that he needed to ask us !

I have asked Paul Thomas (the Boss to call me) I left my telephone number with Francis and Paul the journalist at the news desk to get him to call me... I am still waiting as at 8pm friday 27th april ..now over 8 hours ! for him to atleast ring me...

The problem though, like Hewitt's letter, is that the story is now out there and will be taken as fact by people.

It was a cheap stunt but one, for him, that's worked. The Express should have known better. It needs the Club to make a statement once and for all as at present, as always, it's the supporters trying to defend the name of the Slough Town Football Club.

Liam...go play with your snake ! or whatever

Ian is quite right..I will speak with Bernard tomorrow ! to see what can be done...and how the club want to approach this, but remember Stokes has tried to muddy the good name of our supporters and we need also to re act and counter this story for once and for all...too

The damage has been done - people will read that and think the club and the supporters are after £20 million. We can reply with our own statements or whatever but it has missed the press prior to the election and because we don't have "Councillor" before our name our words are not taken as gospel. The Express should be ashamed of themselves and should retract the statements next week. They won't. Boycott the pile of crap.

Take it as a compliment. The fact that he has to repeat an old lie to get publicity shows that the awareness campaign has hurt him where he least likes it; in the ballot box. They are not ignoring STFC now because they cannot afford to! There will be worse than this before it is over but lies are temporary and eventually get found out.

Commitment though shines out like a beacon that people will eventually respond to.

Keep delivering leaflets, keep up the pressure and keep the faith.

Stokes is playing clever mudding the waters again, but again he's responding to pressure, and once again shows the plus points of standing candidates.

Political or not, getting Labour back into power would help the club at the moment.

Haymill has been hit good ! we have done at least 1200 leaflets there.., we will need help in Wexham on Sunday..lets try and get rid of the mayor...that will make headlines !

Thanks wegie good comments...lets hit them at the ballot box...

lets see how we get on this time round..and next year we can have another go, then another go...we must keep the pressure going...

as warren said..its must be having an effect on them ...for Cllr Stokes to again mention something he has yet to prove..

cheers chris s

I'm sure the request to contact the police made by Roy at a council meeting that many of us attended should have been minuted. Are minutes of council meetings available to the public? If so should we try to obtain a copy, but can't quite remember when the meeting was.

The article is very damaging. The headline makes the story stand-out on the page. I was always told when writing a story that it should be a balanced view, with evidence from both sides. Clearly the Express seem to differ...

Only way which this could be slightly rectified is a story next week with a strong headline with a view from STFC, but as Martin says the damage has been done.

Really disappointing. In my opinion it's really piss poor reporting...

Oh and what was the thing in the Observer last year (a quote from Stokes) which was on the frontpage, which he claimed he never said?
