Best Goal You've Seen Gravesend Score?

After Danny Slatter's screamer last night what is the best goal you've seen the team score. You have to have actually been there for it to count - no heresay goals allowed!

I've got a few:

1) Louie Evans - pre season friendly v Chatham Town - overhead scissor kick from edge of the box and in off the bar - Louie himself even commented on what a crap place to score his best goal ever.

2)Jacko v Bishops Stortford - chested down and volleyed in the top corner

3)Roy Essandoh v Exeter - drilled left foot volley from 25 yards in off the bar at the "Hamid Barr Car Park" end.

4)Jacko v Halifax - 30 yard drive straight into the top corner during the game when Akpo Sodje got sent off for two yellows - one gained for celebrating this goal.

5)Justin Skinner - first season in the Conference - marauded down the left, cut inside and smashed it into the top corner with his right foot.

6)Tostao - backheel volley to get a draw against Morecambe when we need the points desperately.

7)Che Stadhart - Ryman league v Harrow on a Tuesday night - ran down the right and chipped the keeper from the edge of the box.

Once we've got a consensus I'll do a poll.

One goal that sticks in my mind goes back a number of years.

For the life of me I can't remember the season or the opponents for that matter.

But I can remember a snow covered pitch at Stonebridge Road, an amazing goal being scored from distance by Ray Buckley....and then the match being abandoned due to the freezing weather.

Ron Hall v Tonbridge and i think we sealed promotion that night.

And a chap run on the field with a banner to keep Ron at the club after he was told he was not being retained by Alf Ackerman

Your right Ray. If I remember it was from miles out as well. Ensured Ronnie Hall's position in the folklore of G&N Fc.

I would also put Skins' goal against Grays near the end of our championship season in there, charged down the left, came inside and put the ball into the top right corner with an unstoppable beauty of a right foot curler.

I seem to remember Craig Wilkins scoring a wonderous goal as well, think it may have been against St Albans, but not to sure. He controlled the ball really well, turned around and hit it on the volley over a mass of defenders into the top corner.

Jacko's goal at Halifax was pretty good as well, I dont know how far out it was though, we were all at the other end before it got changed around. I would estimate at least 25 yards though.

For another one of importance, I remember away at Canvey in 01/02 when Jacko smashed a volley into the Canvey net to make it one nil.

Maybe for a lot of people and the money it brought us in the end, was it Colin Blewden last minute equaliser away to Marlow in the 4th Q replay? Sadly that was the game just before my first ever Fleet game, but i hear it wasnt spectacular, just a header, but a very important one.

Joys of the edit button, I would also put Matt Lee's volley away at Stevenage down in that list, great goal considering his goal record and for the face on 'Eldinho' after his over elaborate celebration.

Apart from Danny's piledriver last night, I would say Brad's effort last night, and his goal against Woking.

Short memory? Good enough goals, but hardly 'best goal ever' material.

If that's the one I think you're referring to, it was a superb lob over the 'keeper from about 40 yards out, and was indeed against St. Albans.

Steve Perkins' superb curling shot at Accrington is also worthy of mention. Whether or not Slatter's strike last night is the best goal many of us have ever seen us score (and for sheer technique alone, it could well be my choice), it's undoubtedly our goal of the season. In fact, it's depressing just how little competition there is for that accolade this year.

Without a shadow of a doubt, my top two favourite (and therefore best <img src="/forum/images/graemlins/wink.gif" alt="" />) goals are:

1) Micky Cotter's impression of Marco Van Basten with 'that' volley away at S*ittingbourne. Watching an exquisite Simon Ullathorne cross come over he simply thumped it, right-footed, dipping over the top of their rooted keeper.

2) Steve Portway connecting to another exquisite Simon Ullathorne cross with a flying header to beat the keeper from 18yards at Leyton Orient in the FA Cup first round PROPER!

Sad to not have a typically memorable goal since but there y'go!

Actually, I reckon that Luke Moore's against Woking on the 17th April was the best goal I've ever seen and is, therefore, goal of the season...

Ok, but they've got to be a couple of the best ones of this season?

Well, yes. As I said, there's not been a lot to choose from at all this season.
